Hair and makeup on a budget?

Sarah, on May 30, 2020 at 8:24 AM Posted in North Carolina Planning 0 5
Hi there! I'm getting married on October 24thin the Asheville, NC area (Lord willing!!) and I want to hire a hair and makeup artist for my bridesmaids, my mom, and myself. I won't be able to foot the bill for all of them, and most of them are on a pretty tight budget. After talking it over with them, they all have a pretty similar budget of $75 per person. I'm willing to pay $300 for myself, but I'm still having trouble finding someone who will charge anything close to that. I've tried Weddingwire, thumbtack, fb marketplace, and Google search. I'm about to ask on Craigslist but I'm I little scared to.

Any advice y'all can give me would be GREATLY appreciated!!

I looked on WeddingWire and found someone who had very few reviews (comparably), but beautiful pictures. She's relatively new, but she's very skilled, so her prices were lower. You can also try to negotiate with them!

I'm getting my trial, hair, and makeup done for $300 and then it's $150/bridesmaid for hair and makeup and $130/mother for hair and makeup (I'm paying for bridesmaids; moms are optional and they're paying if they want it).

I got married in Asheville and hired Kristin Mirabelle from Pure Beauty Asheville. It was $240 for me, $160 for bm and $80 for moms. $100 travel fee bc I was out in the mountains. Trial was free. She was so nice, good communicator, and did a great job!

What I recommend is just paying for part of them. What I ended up doing is paying for my hair and makeup, as well as just the makeup for 8 of my bridesmaids, and having them do their own hair if they decide to, or having them pay the hair stylists themselves to do it for them. I ended up paying $660 in total. I recommend hiring hair and makeup students who are still in training, if possible.

If their budget is really that tight, then I would recommend either paying for part of it yourself, or choosing between hair or makeup for the bridesmaids to get done professionally. I realize that I'm in a much higher-cost area and I don't know anything about Ashville, but $75 where I'm from would only cover either hair OR makeup for each bridesmaid. Another option would be to cover of the cost of half yourself, and then you should easily be able to make their budgets work.

We're working with Flawless Airbrush and they have been absolutely amazing! But $75 from pretty much anywhere won't cover hair AND makeup. Maybe check if someone in schooling/training could help from a local salon? Or consider having the girls do their own make-up and just get hair done, or vice-versa?
