Hair and Makeup Pricing

Erin, on August 1, 2019 at 6:21 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 8
I’m having a really hard time finding hair stylists and makeup artists who are close to our venue. I’m also not sure what exactly is reasonable with regards to pricing. I found one lady who only does makeup and charges $150 for the bride and $85-90 for bridesmaids. She said the available hairstylist pricing would be the same. She also charges $1/mile outside of a 30 mile radius. That would be about $30 for travel at least one way. Another lady charges $600 for up to 7 services (that includes travel), but one service is makeup for one person and another service is hair for that same person. We might have 10 services—which adds on another $400. That brings the total to $1k. What are your thoughts on asking bridesmaids to chip in or pay for their services? Also, Any tips or advice with regards to reasonable pricing? Thanks! 😊

Hey! Unfortunately those numbers are about on par with everything I’ve looked at, and I’ve done a LOT of price shopping. As far as asking bridal party to chip in, I think it’s totally an individual decision- my FH and I are in college and paying for our entire wedding ourselves and I have TEN maids, so I just can’t afford to get their hair/makeup done. So, I’m leaving the choice up to them if they want it done and if they do want it, they will be paying for it, because that’s just what’s feasible for us. Luckily they’re all super understanding and accommodating and don’t mind at all, so I think it depends on your girls but generally I think asking them to chip in is pretty acceptable Smiley smile

I’m making it optional but available for bridesmaids but they have to pay for their own. Mine is $500 but I’m having her stay for a second look and touch ups throughout the night

I think $85-90 for hair and makeup is good. Think of it like $45 for hair and $45 for makeup. That’s the lowest I’ve seen! We’re getting married in Puerto Rico. The prices are $160 for both plus $70 travel fee, another place is $200 and another is $150. I wish I could do it all myself!

I'm in South Carolina, so I'm not sure if the prices are comparable. But it's $125 for hair and makeup from the girl I am using. $75 for makeup and $60 for hair. Makeup also includes lashes and choice of airbrush foundation or regular, which I know can cost more for some other stylists. She's also charging a $100 travel fee since the venue is a little far for her. But I am giving my bridesmaids the option to use her or do their own hair/makeup. I know these are pretty reasonable prices for my area though.

I paid $240 for bridal hair and makeup and $140 for bridesmaids and moms. Travel was $40 and trial was $80. I'm in Denver! If you want bridesmaids to pay, you have to make it optional so they can do their own if they don't want to pay for it. But I think it's totally fine to make it optional. I paid for all bridesmaids & moms & my makeup, but that was in our budget and that isn't for everyone. Plus one mom opted out of having her hair done, and two bridesmaids wanted to do their own makeup. Everyone picked their own styles.

So I am in Las Vegas and that might not be comparable but I have been looking a lot. I am only needing a hairstylist for myself, my mum, and the 6 BMs. They seem to run from 650 - 850 here for only hair so if you double that it seems to be the fair price of hair and makeup. My only tip is to make sure you know what you want and see if each of the people you are looking into can do something like that. I have really really thin hair and it can make doing the hairstyling process really annoying and take a long time so I have asked all of them "have you dealt with really thin hair before" and depending on their answer is if they stay or go. Another question I ask is "what other events have you done besides weddings?" This question lets me know how long they have been doing the service and tells me if they have a diverse profile. I hope that helps! Good luck!

I would make it optional for the BMs if they want hair and makeup done. If you're requiring a certain hairstyle/look, definitely pay for all of them!
