Hair and makeup start time super early?!

C, on September 19, 2021 at 12:50 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 1 10
My hair and makeup artist wants to start at 6:30 or 7am on my wedding day. First look is at 2:15pm and ceremony at 4pm. This is for hair and makeup for myself, MOH, MOB as well as just hair for MOG and one bridesmaid. Is this way too early?? Will we be exhausted??

That was the exact same timeline that I had. We had to be at the venue by 2 with the wedding starting at 4. Hair & makeup for me, my MOH & 1 bridesmaid. I started last so I could sleep in. I was tired by the end of the night but not exhausted.

Your hair and makeup artist is providing 8 services between all of the individuals you named, needing a out 45 mins to 1 hour for each (and YOUR hair and makeup is going to require additional time and attention). So, unfortunately… YES it’s early and… YES you’ll be exhausted. That’s the catch when allowing the artist to provide hair and/or makeup for multiple ladies.

My MOH is just getting her hair done, but I’m getting makeup and hair both. She’s coming around 11. Ceremony is at 3. But the ceremony is only ten minutes down the street so not like we have to travel far.

Mine is similar. 9 services (5 hair, 4 makeup) starting at 7am. I have to be done with hair & makeup by 1, dressed by 1:30, & at the venue for 1:45 (we have a short drive).

That is early! I understand why it's the case as is, but another option would be to hire another separate MUA or hair stylist so you can cut the time in half. I don't know what you've already signed/committed to in terms of contracts/deposits, etc...but just thought I'd throw this out there!

We had 5 people getting both hair and makeup done and started at 10am (which was the earliest we could access the venue's getting ready suites). It probably took 45 minutes to 1 hour for each service but we had 1 hair stylist and 1 makeup artist. It sounds like you have 1 person providing both services, so I can see why it would take so long - let's say 45 minutes per service and 8 services total = 6 hours, plus touch ups for those who had their service(s) done first, then everyone changing into their outfits and possibly transportation time if you're getting ready at a separate location than your first look. If you can hire a second person, that'll definitely bump your start time a bit later!

My Ceremony began at 6pm, I had one person doing hair and one doing makeup for my mother, my sister and myself. We started at 11:30 and finished right around 5:30, we were just having such a great time that we kind of lost track of time. Our hmuas were amazing and kept checking time and making sure we were good to go! Sounds about right.

I would think you won't sleep well anyway because you will be excited so the early start time should be okay. Also, the excitement of the day will keep you distracted from being tired.

Our makeup artist is doing my makeup along with my 5 bridesmaids. My First Look is at 4pm, Bridal Party Pics at 4:30pm - 5:30pm and the ceremony starts at 6. She's arriving to my MIL's at 9am to ensure we're all done in time. She said it takes her 30minutes - 1 hour, the bridal suite at my venue doesn't open until 2pm and its 15 minutes away from where we'll be.

If she's doing both makeup and hair on multiple people, she'll need all the time she can get.

You'll probably be exhausted by your excitement will overshadow that. Maybe go last so you can get a nap in?
