Hair and makeup suggestions please

Elizabeth, on August 6, 2020 at 6:17 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 21
Our wedding is a destination wedding next May so I won't be able to do a trial run unfortunately. I was asked to bring pictures of hairstyles and makeup looks I like so we can decide what we're going with the day of. I have plenty of time to figure it out but I'm all over the place. Up, down, swept to the side? I feel best with my hair down but I don't want to cover the open back.

Our ceremony will start at 6pm in FL with a reception right after. We're taking most of our pics around 4:30/5PM. I'm growing my hair out so it should be about 6-7 inches longer than this pic by May. I'm planning on keeping my jewelry simple like classic diamond studs but that could change lol. What do you guys suggest for hair and makeup? Hair piece or no? Could I pull off a vintage vibe with this dress? Help! Lol Hair and makeup suggestions please 1

LOVE LOVE LOVE this dress. Because I love the dress, I'd want to wear the hair up to showcase that back and the front detailing. Are you going to wear a veil?

I like the natural look you already have going, maybe just add a pop of color with your lipstick (not much)... and I love the diamond studs, but if you go up, maybe consider a delicate teardrop earring either in true crystal (it will pick up the light and naturally change colors) or go with pearls (looks like your belt has pearls) and that would keep with the "vintage" look IMO.

Thank you for the suggestions!! I love it too! The dress is kinda tricky because it's ivory with subtle metallic silver threading so it looks ivory, silver, or champagne depending on the light. I bought a simple sheer cathedral veil for the ceremony but I'm not sure if it's too much. It depends on my hairstyle and whether or not I go with a hairpiece. I like the idea of a simple teardrop earring and a pop of color for the lips. The belt has subtle pearls and rhinestones, not too blingy but has some sparkle. Pearls would work too. 😃 Thank you!

Here are a couple of suggestions. I think these last two are my favorite, but also really love true crystal (#2).

I definitely think you could pull off a vintage look with this dress! And I think sideswept hair is probably the best solution because it'll allow you to show off the back, but you'll still be comfortable because your hair is still basically down.

With how detailed the dress is, I think simple/minimalistic accessories would be best.

The dress definitely has a vintage style...kind of a 1920s-1940s look. I think a red lip would look great and just classic makeup in general. You could also go for more of an Art Deco look with this dress. Lots of awesome hair accessory options there! With how much the dress shines in flash photos, a hair accessory with a lot of sparkle would match nicely. Here are some examples from Etsy:

I have this.same dress I would go with crystal accessories more less sliver...i dont see gold with it at all unless your belt is gold then yes of course it will blend in. With this dress your hair can be down and a veil is optional...

Oh, we are also getting married in May in FL. Who's your makeup artist? I followed a lot of the Asian makeup artist to get a feel of what I like. I get a lot of inspirations from missj.makeup on IG.

What about a styled low ponytail? Or side pony? That way your hair is still mostly down but it doesn't hide the back of your dress!

What about vintage Hollywood waves? Or a classic low bun/updo would look good your your dress. So very elegant!

I LOVE YOUR DRESS!! My dress was a similar style. We got married this May and with Covid I was left to do my hair and makeup myself. I was actually pleasantly surprised with how it turned out. Thank you Youtube tutorials! I too feel best with my hair down and had been growing it out just for the occasion. I I did loose curls with kind of a twisted braid around the crown of my head and I wore simple pearl and gold stud earrings that were my grandmothers and no other jewelry besides my engagement ring and my right hand Irish Clauddaugh ring I never take off. Here are some pics of our wedding day.

Since you said you felt best with your hair down maybe you can still have it down by swept at the side that way you’re not covering your back

I think I am going to go with a side swept look either down or loosely up so I can keep some hair around my face. My hair is thick and heavy so that might be more comfy in the heat. 😉 thank you!

I chose Bridal by OUAB. I found 3 I liked pretty equally so for me, it came down to who offered more for the $. I liked that Bridal by OUAB offered traditional foundation or airbrushing and lashes. I'm paying for all my bridesmaids, mom, and future MIL's makeup and hair so I liked that everyone can choose what they want and I didn't have to take a poll to see what they preferred before I booked. I'm going to let my girls choose whatever hair and makeup they feel best in. 😉

I agree. I bought silver shoes thinking it would match and ended up not liking how it looked. I may end up wearing it still since you can't really see them but I'm also checking out other shoes that are more neutral and understated. It just has to be comfy. I'm over painful shoes. Lol.

Ahh. You're so kind. Thank you! My alterations turned out great. The dress was too big in places and she made it fit so well. I'm just a little nervous that it won't fit well by next May. I can't gain or lose in the next 9 months. I added that belt at the last minute during my last fitting. I thought it completed the look. I can't wait to finally wear it and see it all come together!
