Hair and makeup timeline... what's normal?

Jmz, on March 9, 2022 at 10:32 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 1 3

My hair and makeup artist is asking for a start of 11am until 3.30 when we're a 5 minute drive to the venue. This is a change from her original suggestion of 10-3. Ceremony start is at 6 and we're only allowed in the venue starting at 5 so I might do some family/friend photos then (no first look). In my opinion, it feels very very early! I get my hair and makeup done for my job as a performer so I know how it all works. I realize she wants to do the best she can and make it how I want it, but I really don't like the idea of having to sit awkwardly for 1.5 hours until we head for the venue. She's only doing me, my mom, and my MIL. I don't want to rush her, but I want to push again for even later... would that be alright?

That is considered normal for wedding hair/makeup even though it is very early if you have gaps before the ceremony. They want to allow you time for pre ceremony pictures. Will your photographer get any photos of just you, if you aren’t doing any with your fiancé, before the ceremony while makeup and hair still fresh? That will cut down on time spent for photos after the ceremony so you can get straight to the reception.

Ok thanks for the feedback! I contacted my photographer to get her opinion, since I definitely want to spend less time on posed photos and more time enjoying the day. But not to say I don't want any photos 😅 so yeah I thought I'd ask her professional opinion.

When I’m doing for a timeline, hair/makeup artists and photographers are the ones to ask because they make timelines every day as part of their job description when working with clients.
