Hair and makeup trial

Hannah, on August 6, 2019 at 12:57 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 11
Hi!

I’m trying to find a hair and makeup artist for my wedding next October. Did you book before your trial or do the trial before booking? I don’t want to have a trail a few months before, not be happy and then be stuck. Any suggestions or experiences appreciated!

I did my trial before I booked. She did my makeup and then I took photos. After I decided I really liked it I emailed her and booked it.

I booked first. My wedding planner told me if you want a hair and makeup artist to come to you then you need to get them booked around a year out. So trusting her recommendation and putting down a deposit ASAP was important to me.

I did a trial before booking, but it's more common to do one after. I paid $80 for a trial to make sure I liked her (this was the second trial I did), booked her, then paid another $80 for a trial 2 months out.

I did a trial first and then booked. I’m getting married this October and had my trial in May.

I booked my HMUA first. I’m getting married on Leap Day, and my trial is at the end of January. I’ve seen a lot of her work, and she’s really great so I went ahead and booked her since her pricing was super reasonable too!

I booked first because I didn’t want to pay for multiple trials, plus I’m traveling and can’t just schedule them whenever. It was a risk but it turned out great.

Makeup and hair artists book up quick in my area, so I asked the artist if I signed a contract and was not happy with a trial, that the contract could be voided. Get the clause in writing!

I had my trial then booked. There was no way I was going to book a HMUA, get locked into a contract, and risk hating her work later on when I did my trial. I had my trial in April and booked my HMUA the same day for my October 2019 wedding.

I did trials and booked the ones I loved.

Just make sure that day of the wedding they do it exactly how you wanted it done during the trial. Sometimes people get carried away

I just booked hair and makeup and I did that first. My artist was suggested through my planner and I looked through her photos of work to make sure I liked her style and what she has done in the past. I wanted the trial for both hair and makeup to be a time to work with the person I would have day of to show her my vision and then have her help me make tweeks or suggestions as needed.
