Hair and Makeup trials- Destination wedding-

Lara, on April 6, 2023 at 2:07 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 5

Hi ladies! We are having a destination wedding of sorts. (About two hours away from where we reside) I am finding it quite difficult to schedule a hair and makeup trial appointment with whom I have hired for my wedding day. (Not on their end, on my end! Life, work, all the last minute to dos and appointments that are piling up for this wedding- difficult to schedule the travel to the area right now originally intended on making the trip, but GAH.)

Has anyone ever had a destination wedding, hired makeup and hair professionals local to the destination wedding area, BUT had the hair and makeup trials done locally to where they reside? How did that go? Did the professionals you hired FOR THE WEDDING Day have special requirements they would need to see?

(Having the people doing the trial write notes, jot down colors, pictures, etc?)

Also, if anyone has done it this way, how did the end result come out on your wedding day? Were you pleased with the results, was everything similar or exact to what you loved and had done at your trial? Or was it a disaster/ not the same?

Any suggestions? Input? Advice? Thank you!

I don’t see any point in doing a hair trial with someone else other than maybe in a general way to give you an idea of what is possible with your hair texture, how long it might stay in place etc. Keep in mind there can be a very big, night and day difference between stylists in terms of skill, talent, and style. If I were you I’d make the time if possible.

CM, that's what my gut has been screaming ... to go to who is doing it. I feel that it is a "safer" choice. Ya know? I'd be more comfortable the day of too.

You are totally right on the differences in skill, talent and style!! I figured since time and travel is becoming the issue here, ask the ladies on wedding wire. lol. You just helped me on deciding to always go with your gut instinct. Thank you kindly for responding! I'll figure this out and get there to the artists I've hired. Smiley heart

Hmm if it’s just a time issue & not a budget one- you could see if the artist would come out to your place to do the trial, maybe if you just pay extra for her travel time and costs? Good luck! I had an amazing trial and am so excited for the wedding day with my artist

Totally feel you! We got married 5 hours away and I wasn’t able to make it down with my schedule and hers before the wedding. We could only take off so much time and we already had gone down a few times for other things. So my family and me and my husband planned to go down a few days before the wedding so we could do last minute things and I literally did my hair and makeup trial on Friday for my Sunday wedding lol

    Hi Taylor!

OMGOSH, it all seemed so "Doable" in the beginning. But.... life man. LOL.

We too area heading to the area we are getting hitched at.... three days before. I called after seeing your post and tried for something the day we arrived or the following day.. and all booked. GAH, I though.

BUT- I ended up getting so super lucky. I decided to take the advice given here (and with my gut) and kept trying for the trial on a day that would work with the ladies doing it all and with myself.... that I have hired for the day of. (Instead of chancing the "do the trial at home and hope for the best" come the wedding day.)

After more than a couple of can nots on both ends. And also, a couple of

"Try to schedule off of work" (I thought at one point, I'm just going to have to "Be sick" one day.... Smiley tongue ) There was a cancellation that came in for a Sunday and low and behold I have nothing planned to do for this wedding or anything else that day!

I grabbed that dang appt up so fast. I was driving when I got the email... I pulled over, put flashers on and responded right then and there! LOL. Serendipitous... or just luck.

Whichever... PHEW! Thanks for all of your input!!
