Hair colored too dark

Stephanie, on August 27, 2018 at 5:24 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 12
How do you fade/lighten recently dyed hair without going back to the hair dresser? I asked for chocolate brown hair and my hair almost looks black. Our wedding is this Saturday and it’s out of town where I originally got my hair done. Any suggestions?

When was it dyed? Usually if you just wash it with shampoo within 48 hours it will fade a bit!

Browns always look darker at first. On a color scale, 1 is black and 10 is blondest blonde. My natural hair is a 4, but when I want to dye it to natural, I go with a 2 for the fading. It looks close to black at first, but looks the way I want in a week or 2.

Just keep washing it. It will fade gradually.

My hair always looks almost black when I dye it. It usually fades down to my normal dark brown after about two washes.

I made this mistake once. Wash it ALOT! And with clarifying shampoo! I had gotten a professional stregth kind at Sally’s beauty supply. Took about a week but it worked. I think I washed it at least twice a day.

    Apparently this works...

1.Combine 2 cups of baking soda and 1/4 cup of clarifying shampoo in a non-metal bowl. The alkalinity of the baking soda works to open your hair up, letting the clarifying shampoo better strip its color. Use a whisk to work the baking soda and shampoo together.

You might want to bump the baking soda up to 3 cups if you have longer than shoulder-length hair.

2.Wet your hair with hot water. Heat, in conjunction with the baking soda, will greatly open the cuticles of your hair. Do not use cool water, because it will close the cuticle.

    3. Rub it into damp hair. You can use your hands, or a spatula. Thoroughly cover the dyed hair, so that you don’t end up with mis-matched color.

Take care not to get the mixture in your eyes! You might want to use a towel or cloth around your head, to keep the mixture from dripping down toward your face.

    4. Wash it out after 5-15 minutes. The duration will depend on how much color you’re looking to remove. Leave it in for longer for more drastic results, but no longer than the recommended 15 minutes. Multiple batches is recommended if 15 minutes doesn’t prove sufficient.

    5. Blow-dry part of your hair to check the color. As you might need to wash it again—and heat will cause undue strain on your hair—you should only dry a small section of your hair. If the color looks good, then great! If not, you’ll want to mix another batch of baking soda and shampoo and get ready for round 2.

    6. Make another batch, if necessary.

After you’ve finished, avoid any styling that uses heat for a day or two. Both dyeing and “un”dyeing your hair take a toll.

You've tried this, or you are just saying it's supposed to work?

Any type of excessive washing (9 times a day?!?) and using multiple clarifying shampoos is going to strip your hair of all oil and make it a wreck. I would not do any of this 4 days before my wedding.

I haven't tried it and I wouldn't do it 9 times and neither did I suggest that she should. It said to re-do if the treatment wasn't enough, it did say multiple but not 9.

Sorry if my document was misinterpreted.... I was trying to help! OG Gretchen

Someone above you said to wash hair 9 times. My first question was the only response to you and then below that I responded to the previous comments
