Hair dilemma

Cali, on March 9, 2021 at 10:16 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 8
Hi guys,

I’m torn! I really love the styles of the half up/half down hair styles for my wedding but I’m nervous that it’ll lose style as time goes on since my wedding is in august and it’ll be humid. My hair is naturally curly and gets frizzy really easily so I think an updo would be the practical choice. Do I go practical or with what I like?

Do you have a stylist booked yet? If so, I would reach out to her/him and ask them what they think with your hair type. They might be able to give you a better idea on if these styles are something they could do with your hair and if they can't, they'll probably have some alternative ideas on what they could do instead.

    Hi,
Yes I do have my stylist booked but we haven’t had a trial yet or met in person. Do you think if I described this they would be able to help me or should I wait until my trial to ask? I also would like to buy hair accessories before my trial which is why I’m trying to figure it out before hand.

They might be able to! I'm sure they've worked with curly hair before as well so they'll hopefully be able to be honest with you about what they can and can't do. Do you flat iron at all? I have naturally curly hair, but I flat iron whenever we are going out, and my stylist is able to work with that and can do certain styles.

Thank you! I flat iron before I style it usually (if I’m trying to do anything nicer with my hair) otherwise on day to day I leave it curly. I’m sure if I straighten it they’ll be able to achieve the half up look, I’m just nervous with the humidity of august it’ll get frizzy and straight.

So what I do any time I have to have my hair done and worry about style is tell them first that my hair is curly, I flat ironed it, so don't get it wet and style it dry. Usually once I say that they get the hint that it needs more holding power and will use a stronger hairspray. My hair also funnily enough doesn't hold a curl from a curling iron for ANYTHING so it has to really be sprayed down haha. But usually once the stylist knows you have curly hair, they get it and will use the products that will work to keep your hair in place.

A professional should be able to put products in your hair to prevent frizz. Talk to your hair stylist during your trial and let them know what you are looking for. They will likely tell you if they don't think it can be achieved. However, you can't go wrong with any of those options you posted. They are all very pretty!

Definitely do a trial run, and ask them whatever questions you have even before or during. That way you have that open communication and they KNOW what you are looking for and will be working with. I'm sure they can recommend different products to use for what is best for humidity. If you need touch ups then ask what they would recommend. Maybe keep a can of hair spray (or again, whatever they recommend) to constantly keep everything in place.
Also those are beautiful hair styles!

If there’s someone you see regularly for hair cuts, ask for their advice as well. That person will have had more experience with your hair and can recommend products and what to do in preparation styling. I will say my regular stylist (who I’ve gone to for about 10 yrs) was a lot more transparent and helpful with products and things to consider leading up to my wedding than the woman I hired to do my hair day of. (My regular stylist didn’t do onsite hair, so it didn’t work out to hire her for wedding hair.)

If you have room in your budget, you can add extra hours for a hair stylist to stay on site during your ceremony and restyle your hair for the reception. So if you really want, for example, half up/half down for ceremony and formal photos and then want an updo for your reception, if you’re willing to pay for it you can hire a hair stylist to hang around and change your hair post-ceremony.
