Hair Disaster 10 days out

Blahblahblah, on May 15, 2019 at 11:54 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 10

I have been platinum for about 4 years now. I wanted to do a more natural color for my wedding, and strawberry is my natural color. The first time I went (1st pic), it came out perfect, but after about 4-5 washes, all of the strawberry came out which is normal (2nd pic and 2a). So I went back in yesterday to retone the hair, and its about idk... 5 shades too dark and the wrong color? (3rd pic)

I have been trying to be nice about it because I have been with my stylist for 4 years, and she has always done good, but honestly shes being a b-i-t-c-h about it. She's saying that i'm being too picky and that we THAT is the lightest warm tone she can do. I was like how is that, because the first time you did it, it was much lighter and perfect?

Shes going on vacation for her wedding which is this Saturday, and isn't available before my wedding.

I asked her if I should call to get a bleach wash done, and she was like "I wouldn't do that, just keep washing your hair every day and see if that helps."

Well its completely wrong, and this is the ONLY thing that has gone wrong with my wedding and I am having major anxiety about it.

Is anyone on here a stylist or have any idea how I can get this corrected? I will go professional, but I just need someone to tell me it can be done and how.

This probably won't lighten it enough, but wash your hair several times with dawn dish soap. I went in to get my hair dyed to its original color (medium brown) and I came out with black hair. The lady I went to fix it told me to wash with dawn dish soap a few times before I try to get it lightened again.

Honestly, all colors look beautiful on you and what you are calling dark brown is actually very light. My hair is dark brown and much darker than that. Are you opposed to going to a new stylist for a second opinion? That’s what I would recommend if you are not happy with it.

With 10 days out, I'd just do exactly what she said. Wash it every day with a regular shampoo and make sure to condition. The last thing you want to do is over-process your hair. I accidentally dyed mine black, too, and Dawn helped a bit, but it also dried my hair a lot.

Thank you. I say 'Dark' because I was a level 10 platinum, and its a 7 or 8 now, so its a big difference for me. I have to go to a new one because she isn't available, i'm just freaking out it won't be fixed in time.

Can you get lighter highlights in it? I would go to a different stylist with good reviews and tell her what you want and see if she can fix it. I don’t think it’s a disaster though! It still looks very pretty and I can still see some strawberry tones, at least it didn’t fall out lol

Would using purple shampoo help to get some of the brightness back to it? Keep washing it, gently, and the color should fade before the big day.

I would wash it 2xs a day for 3 days and see what you think. A clarifying shampoo would be best. Just be sure it doesn't have any color depositing contributions to it. Purple shampoo would be the worst since it will deposit pigment onto the hairshaft. The goal should be to open the cuticle and expose the toner that stained your strands and not deposit on top of it. If you are 5 days out and still feel it's too dark/red, I would go to a HIGHLY rated, master colorist and ask for a bleach wash and possibly a condition. Most likely the stylist will not be able to get you in at such late notice, but this is something their assistant can do at the shampoo bowl. It's a very easy process and anyone can do it, but having the master stylist look at your hair first and mix the bleach to shampoo ratio is the key! Even if you can only get 15 minutes with the colorist, he/she can see the condition of the hair, feel if the cuticle is even open to accepting any new toner, and can determine if a simple bleach wash will get the color out without lifting or turning your roots orange. I agree with your original stylist, washing it and letting it fade is the best option. But you simply don't have the luxury of time! It's a good plan in theory, but it will be hard to expose the cuticle enough to fade all of the newly deposited toner without a little bit of chemicals. I wish you the best of luck!!! Just know you are going to look stunning even if it's darker than you invisioned. It might not be your favorite color, but it is still beautiful and you will look amazing!!
