Hair Extensions for Wedding Day

bina1015, on February 7, 2015 at 12:31 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 21

Are any of you going to wear hair extensions foe the big day? I've been thinking about it since my hair is thinning due to pcos and I would like a fuller hairstyle.

If you are, what brands did you or are you buying?

I actually went and had a consult the last time I had my hair cut. She said my hair is so "baby fine" that she would NOT recommend any type of extensions. The clip in style would not stay in (she even brought one out to show me and they in fact slid in my hair and you could see the clip). When I asked her about the tape in style she said it would rip out so much of my hair but she "could do it" if I absolutely wanted it. At the end of the day we decided that a braided up-do would work best for my hair.

I am thinking about wearing clip-ons for length.

I have cheap clip in now and they stay in with no problem but they are old and show it. I think I bought them from sallys. I'm thinking about clip in again but not sure what brand is good without breaking my pockets he he.

I really really really want extensions for the wedding but FH is super opposed to it. I was going to get Halo extensions, instead of clipping it is a fitted wire (?) band that goes around your head and hides between the top and bottom layers of your hair.

My bff who is a hair stylist used extensions for her wedding day. Not to add length, but to add fullness/volume. Her hair was absolutely gorgeous! I need them for added volume too. I actually just went and bought mine today so I'll have them for my next trial! I also bought the 14in. Remy brand from Sally's that A&J recommended to you!

My hairdresser suggested it for length, but I am going to have her buy them since she can get access to professional quality ones. I am not sure what I would do otherwise.

I've been wearing tape in extensions for about a year now. @GrayCatVintage I think you've seen how thin my hair really is. Your stylist must not know that much about tape ins because I have zero issues with hair loss when I remove them. I absolutely love having tape ins! After the wedding I do plan on cutting my hair back into a bob though. I kinda miss the short hair, but having lovely lady locks is also so much fun!

Hopefully this picture actually posts with my comment. Here's the tape in. You can see how such a small amount of hair is needed. Super easy to remove with the right bond remover! It's actually toupee tape that keeps them in place!

@Alexis: I actually told my stylist what you told me and I showed her your picture lol. She looked at me like I had two heads and said that the tape-ins will "mat" and rip out my hair even more. She did say "she would do it if I insisted" but I am not sure if her hesitation was genuine or if she just really didn't want to do them.

I will be wearing extensions I actually bought them already. It was suggested to me by my hairstylist since my hair is thin the extensions will give it volume. I bought them at a beauty supply store, they were a bit pricey but I got the longest ones because I have really long hair. One of my friends gets them from dirtylooks.

I got clip is. I'm not sure I would classify my hair as baby fine but it is super fine. My hair stylist suggested hair extensions to get any sort of body. I ended up getting 22" clips in because my 14" didn't have the effect I wanted.

@GrayCatVintage my hair would mat when I wouldn't put any product in it and I used the wrong shampoo and conditioner. L'Oréal makes sulfur free products that are amazing and I put the original frizz ease in it while it's still wet. I'm good to go for another 2 days after that. I've also tried 2 different kinds of bond remover before I found one that works suuuuuuuuper well without leaving oil residue. No offense to your stylist, but she doesn't know her shit lol. I live it. I take them out and color them and curl them and put them back in. She's an idiot.

GrayCatVintage, if your stylist sounds that apprehensive about doing the extensions on your hair, she's not the right person to do them. I have naturally kinky-curly hair and some stylists do not like working with my type of hair. The second I get "Ummmmmm" and the stink-eye, I get up and find someone else. I don't need anyone feeling like they are doing me favor to do my hair when it is their JOB.

FH doesn't want me to get extensions, but I probably will make my own clip-ins for added thickness. Making them is super-easy, and you control the quality of the hair.

Plus extensions are actually really hard to blend properly with your natural hair. They don't lay the same so it's not the same cutting techniques your stylist would usually use. I know that on babe tape in extensions website, they have lists of credited stylists who are trained to do extensions. All types of extensions. I'd speak to one of them.

Does your hairdresser have to do this or can you order them online?
