Hair Extensions, or No?

Rachel, on January 12, 2019 at 7:04 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 14

In thinking about my hair for the big day, I'm starting to look into hair extensions. A lot of the styles I see that I really love just arents possible with my natural hair. I have very thin, fine hair so I was thinking that the extensions would add the volume and a little length like I'm looking for, but I have no experience with them. I'm worried the clips or tracks would show since my hair is so thin, and I'm also concerned about color matching, and I don't know a good brand of hair to buy. Currently, I'm not certain if I can afford a stylist, or if I will need to do my hair myself. If anyone has experience or advice, I'd appreciate it!

It might depend on the area you're in, but around where I live in Arizona, to get GOOD professionally done extensions, up can be upwards of $1,000. My sister does tape ins herself though and you honestly can't even tell she has them, and she wears her hair up all the time. I can ask her what brand she uses.

Following this thread. I also have thin hair and am looking into adding extensions for the day off.

I have very fine hair, a little past my shoulders, but a lot of it. Regardless, I want a hold up, half down hairstyle with curls. So my stylist recommended getting clip ins (not a halo) that they can put in for me on my day. If you have time, maybe get some cheaper ones and test how they look when you do them yourself, and go from there? I wouldn’t trust myself doing them, but that’s just me! If you have a stylist to do your hair, I’m sure they can help you out.

Get them! My hair grew past my shoulders but not long enough for all the curls I wanted. Plus I also have fine hair. My stylist suggested taped-in tensions I wore for 5 weeks. They ran $250-$300 I think? So worth it! She ordered two colors so they’d blend in with my highlights. I’d suggest getting them in two weeks before your wedding so if you need them adjusted, you have time. Because of the way my hair lays in the back, two that were too high we’re showing. I had those removed. All better. Long hair feels so sexy! Fun to have on my mini-moon.

I'm going to wear clip ins. I plan on spending around $200 for them, but I am using a hair stylist. If I was doing my own hair, I probably wouldn't get them in fear they would show. I'm going to go to Sally's and look online. I want my hair curled so I need human hair.

Hi, I have thin hair also and will be wearing extensions for my wedding. From my experience, stylist who are experienced doing African American hair can be less expensive. Same great quality, but have different ideas and other connections. I have a stylist adding extensions and will have someone else style .

I too have been looking into extensions. My hair grows fast and it’s currnetly at my elbows but it is so thin and fine, you can easily see my scalp. I just don’t have a lot of hair in general... medical reason. I’m thinking the halo would be best. I’ve tried clip ins and they show through my thin hair. I don’t want anything semi permanent because I fear losing more hair. I have a consultation this weekend to try the halo out, I’m hoping it works but gosh is it expensive! Well, to me $600 (not including color match and cut) is a LOT to spend on hair but at least I can wear it for about a year! I think of it as about $1.50/day Smiley smile good luck in your search!

I have extremely curly hair (I’m half African American and have Caucasian) and all of the Sykes i like my hair would have to be straightened then curled, let alone probably longer. I went to a place near me that sells BULK beauty items and one of the women in the store matched my hair ALMOST PERFECTLY and though they were $170, i got them because they are AMAZING. No problems with heat, styling or washing (and this is my first time ever owning or using extensions.

I wore extensions for years. I 100% prefer clip ins. Permanent ones are a pain in the butt, high high maintenance. You can always buy a couple cheaper pieces to see if you like them. Then do your internet research to find good ones. There’s a couple highly rated sets on amazon for less than $100. Do not buy synthetic, human hair only.
They are easier to hide than you think, but having thin hair you’ll want to tease your hair at the clip. Extensions are super fun, you will feel sexy on your big day!

I’m definitely getting extensions even though my hair is long I was talking to my hairstylist and she said just to get a sewing meaning she couldn’t Braid all my hair and she’s going to use human hair and when you look at it it looks completely real and last about two months which I don’t need it for that long I only need it for the week of my honeymoon and then after that I could just take it out but it’s safer and is not going to damage your own hair.

    Beautiful!

I have kinkier and more shrinkage than you, but I'm also looking for extensions for my wedding. The extensions I want have a "blown out" look, which matches my hair perfectly (pic below, not me.)

I think you should first talk to your hair stylist. You’ll be surprise what can be done with extra tools for an updo without having to use extensions. If you do decide to to extensions maybe go a more permanent way so you can install a few ones here and then. They’re more expensive but they’re sort of permanent. You can do it weeks before so you adjust to how heavy you’re hair would now feel and avoid getting headaches the day off. Not everyone is able to resist extensions so keep that in mind.

I honestly needed to read this because I was clueless when it came to extensions! But, now, I think I've been steered onto the right path! I'll definitely ask my hairdresser about what I could do about that as I near our engagement photoshoot.
