Hair Extensions

Jessica, on June 14, 2019 at 9:57 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 18
Has anyone considered getting hair extensions for their wedding? I have soft fine hair so it doesn’t hold waves super well so I’m a little worried about it falling flat in certain areas. I was going to do extensions with my hair stylist, she would dye them to match my hair color and put them in, to add some length, volume and hopefully help the style hold but I can’t decide if it’s worth it. Just looking for other opinions!

A friend did. I cant tell you specifics. But I know they were a ton of work. I'm not that into my hair to do something like that.

I bought them. They are worth it. I got the clip ins. I've been wearing them to events to get used to them. They are easy to put in and add volume and length. I have super fine thing hair.

I am using clip in, from Milk & Blush. They cost around $260 and are great!

I may use some clip in hair because I have some hair loss after weight loss surgery. If I do they'll be hidden under a jeweled head band

I was considering it ONLY because my hair is a little longer than shoulder length... I would love to have my long hair back! Unfortunately my hair doesn't grow fast Smiley sad

I'm using a $10 pair of extensions off Amazon for my updo to give it more volume. Already did a trial, and it worked out great.

I have fine hair as well but did not want extensions. When I went for my hair/makeup trial, the stylist had to redo my hair twice because it wouldn't hold a curl. She suggested I get this stuff for the wedding day...

I got it and have used it once just to test it out and it works! Might be another option for you. Or you can always get it and try it on your own like I did before you make a final decision.

I needed length & volume too. I had the taped-in kind and they worked great (maybe $200)? My hairstylist ordered. I had them put it at least a week before the wedding to let them grow out a bit and see if any needed adjusting (I have a cowlick on the back of my head which kept showing the tape of one so my stylist just took that one out). My hair held curls great on my wedding day!

I am considering extensions for the sake of volume because i too have very fine hair. If I do the extensions I will probably go with Barefoot Blonde Hair because they have a specific set called Fill-Ins to add volume to shoulder length hair, which I have. Obviously if you have longer hair you’d have to go with the regular long extensions. They also have a lotttt of shade variation and this particular kind is only $60

I'm having to do the same! I'm going to order some off Amazon because I don't want to spend a lot of money on hair extensions that I will never wear again. I found some that are real human hair for around $40

I’m doing clip-ins, it was a difficult process to find ones that worked for me but only because my hair is a dark brown to copper balayage and also to my waist when blown out. I ended up having someone from Sally Beauty help me and now I have some that are a perfect match! Just keep in mind the longer your hair, the more expensive they may be. Mine were close to $150, but I had to get 24” ones for them to be the same length as my actual hair and they’re also human hair not synthetic.

I have worn extensions (clip ins mostly since sophomore year of high school). I usually buy the real hair ones from Sally's and dye them to match my hair color. It adds length and volume and can be styled pretty much anyway with the right stylist. I haven't worn them in about a year because I wanted to let me hair go natural color wise and just see what happens. I definitely plan on buying some clip ins for my wedding day to make my hair fuller and longer. They are like $120 usually for a full set of clip ins and my hair and makeup stylist is only adding $20 to the cost of my styling to style them into my natural hair. I think its worth it if you are going for a fuller longer look. This is what I'm going for:

I've had the keratin bonded ones, the tape in ones and the clip in ones. My hair is very soft and fine so I had extensions for 2 years and I loved them, I was said to take them out but my hair needed a break. I really want to try the halo extensions however those (for good quality) are much more expensive then any of the other ones.

I will be getting clip ins, for our wedding, to give me the added length and to hold the curls. If you get real hair ones, they are not bad at all, you may even fall in love with them. They add thickness and should help your natural hair hold curls.

I'm a long time user of extensions. I've done keratin bonds and clip in. I had keratin bonds for our wedding. They really help my fine thin hair hold a curl b/c they blend together well.

There are a many types of extensions/ you have many options. Here's an overview:

    (1) Tape-in - exactly what it sounds like, they are strips (can be small (1.5") to large (9") that adhere to your scalp. Some people love them, some hate them. I personally don't like them, especially not the latter b/c I feel like you can see the bump from them. You also will not be able to wear your hair in a ponytail. These are semi-permanent lasting 6-8 weeks, and sometimes can be reused. Depending on the quality, how many and where you go they'll be around $80-160 for about 10 1.5". There will likely be an appt/ installation fee above and beyond that. They are not recommended for people with fine thing hair b/c they can damage and pull too hard b/c of the weight.

    (2) I-Link extensions - these are beads that get clamped to your hair. No glue or heat used. My friend had them and loved them. She said they were pretty heavy compared to other extensions. They last 6-8 weeks and can be un-clamped and used again. Depending on the quality, how many and where you go they'll be around $50-100 for about 20 strands. There will likely be an appt/ installation fee above and beyond that.

    (3) Keratin bond extensions - Heat is used to bond the extension hair to your existing hair. Lasts 6 weeks to four months. Can't be reused. I have used these for years and I personally love them b/c I can wear my hair in a pony tail. They're great for a bride that wants length and/or volume, and to continue to wear them during the honeymoon. These reallllly range in price. Some salons will charge $900 every 3-4 months. I found a stylist that we stagger and I go every 4 weeks and get half redone. Hard to explain. My cost for that is about $300 each time.

    (4) Ready to wear

    (a) clip in - multiple pieces and widths, usually something like one 9", two 6", one 7", two 4", four 1.5" pieces. These are clipped onto the roots of your hair. They can be cut and styled with your hair. Many brides like these b/c you can wear them that day, and be done. Orrrr you can take them out and re-use them! If you take care of them and buy high quality they can last six months. I personally like these because you can wear them when you want, how you want, and take them out to workout, sleep etc. These are probably around $120 and you would just pay a regular styling fee to a hair stylist. I would recommend these if you just want length and/ or volume for your big day only.

    (b) halo - these have a wide weft of hair strung onto a long microfilm wire. They can range anywhere from $50 at your local drug store to $150 for high quality. If you aren't someone that can wear a headband, or have fine thin hair, then this probably is not for you. I can't really comment on these b/c I can't wear a headband and have fine thin hair and these were the pits for me.

All in all, I would recommend the clip in or the keratin bond. From a cost standpoint, clip in is probably the best of the two. Your stylist can order a hair color for you, they shouldn't need to dye it. In fact, they should match and not dye it b/c you don't know what the original hair color was and it could come out a weird color...

I am a big fan of the Remy human hair. Your stylist can likely recommend something, but I've been a long time user of Donna Bella Hair.

Make sure you get quality ones, the one wedding I saw where the bride had extensions made her look like a cheap b list actress. They were over the top and didn’t blend well at all

I have relatively thin hair that NEVER holds a curl. I bought some 40 dollar extensions from Amazon that are wonderful! Real human hair and curl nicely! We also used one of the curling irons that sucks your hair inside to curl it, and it actually held!

I am getting the clip in extensions. I also have fine thin hair and really need them for thickness (I’m wearing my hair in a loose chignon bun). My HMUA just told me to bring them to her about 2 weeks before the wedding so she can have them prepped already in an effort to save time.
