Hair + Makeup Advice

Ashley, on May 13, 2021 at 4:21 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 7
Trying to decide if it’s best to hire a company that does both hair + makeup OR two different companies to do each (1 hairstylist, 1 makeup artist)?

From the quotes I’ve received it seems you hire a company that does both hair + makeup they only send one person? Or depending on the company and price I could ask for a second person or assistant to attend?

Seems if I hire two different companies I’d then have 2 people multitasking: 1 working on someone’s hair + 1 working on someone’s makeup at the same time to avoid a bridesmaid just sitting there waiting?
I see the benefits of either option and need help/advice deciding!
PS: Only bride + 2 bridesmaids (3 total for hair + makeup at the venue on the wedding day)

Get price quotes from both independent vendors and companies who have teams. Confirm with them what their policies are for working with other vendors.

I hired a company that provided both services and there were two girls that came that day (was supposed to be three, but the third had a family emergency). The number of people they send is really going to depend on the number of girls getting services done. Since you are only having four people one person should be plenty. If it were a larger party then I could see needing more than one person. Even if two we had some girls just sitting around, but they didn't mind. I provided breakfast and lunch and made a playlist of my favorite music. They hung out with us and chatted so even though they sat and waited they enjoyed themselves.

Most weddings I've been involved in, two people are sent when you hire from one company, but I would ask the vendor to be sure.

I personally hired two different people since I've used a particular hair dresser for years and am very comfortable and confident with her ability to style my hair. She isn't a makeup artist though, so I had to find a separate one - which is fine by me since makeup is a hobby of mine and I knew exactly what I was looking for.

That said, my makeup artist also does hair, and did it for our engagement shoot - she just came herself, but I imagine she'd come with a second person if she was doing it for my wedding day simply due to the number of people she'd be doing.

I would recommend getting quotes from different places and letting them know you have 3 people that need hair and makeup done. I feel like most places would send 2 people so they can each be doing something at the same time. I had my hair and makeup done at the same place. But I booked a salon that was more of a spa and had a makeup artist on staff. I intentionally chose that place to ensure my bridesmaids and I could have it all done at the same place because that felt easier to me. I am in a wedding this September and we booked a business that does both and will come to us. That just felt easier to me. Then you know the makeup artist and stylist are already familiar with each other and can work together. i think it's easier to have 1 business do it all. But I would look at their work and reviews to ensure they can do an adequate job for you!

I hired a lady who did both. Her sister helped her out doing what her sister told her to do and she did a great job as well.

For the wedding it was 4 (2 moms, myself and my MoH-just makeup for her)
It took from about 8:10Am to 1:50pm. Usually takes about few hours for each bride being the longest (party she did just my hair and makeup and she started about 12ish and was done like 3:30 maybe?
I definitely didn’t want to get two different people since that would’ve been 2 separate trials to pay for.

    Hi there!

I hired someone who could do both! I didn't want to have to stress over finding two different people from two different companies. Which also would have meant having to pay for two different trials. I also found that finding someone who could do both is a bit cheaper. ( this could also be based on your location) My stylist is going to bring along an assistant to help. There will be 7 of us total so having that extra stylist will help speed up the process.

    Good luck!
