Hair & Makeup

I think for the most part all eyes will be on the bride, and I doubt anyone will be comparing the BMs hair and makeup to yours. In my opinion it looks betters when everyone has different hairstyles and even different dresses. It seems pushed/obligated when they all look exactly the same.

I was a BM in a wedding where only the bride was professionally done and we all helped each other with hair and makeup and it looked great. No one could tell. I'm having my BM's get their makeup done at least (None of them wear makeup normally so they don't really know how to put it on)

I had 2 girls get theirs done professionally, 1 girl do her own hair and makeup, 1 girl did her own makeup and had her hair done professionally and it was completely fine! They all looked beautiful and nobody was out of place.

This is what I'm doing too, professional for me, and the bridesmaids can either do their own or pay for a professional themselves. I had no requirements for how they have their hair or makeup looking. If you want them to look a certain way, then you pay for it.

I’m having my hair and makeup done professionally, on site at our hotel room at our venue. I’m paying to have all my BMs hair done for them professionally. I’ll let them decide what style they want, I’m not going to tell them they need it a certain way if they don’t like it (some people don’t like their hair all the way up, etc). I gave them all the option of paying to have their makeup professionally done or do it themselves. Only my sister is getting hers done professionally (she’s my MOH). I don’t think it’s weird for the bridesmaids to do their own hair and makeup. 2 of my girls actually asked me if they could do their own, because they just don’t like other people doing their makeup (one is my FSIL, who has a cosmetology license and is picky). And I’m paying for everyone to have their hair done, as I feel like it’s a pain to have to do your own on the day of a wedding. As long as they’re not just like throwing their hair up in a ponytail or it looks messy and not formal at all I think you’re fine with letting everyone do their own hair. You can tell them that while you’re unable to cover the costs for everyone, this is the pricing if they want to come with you and have their hair/makeup done professionally. Some may want to!

This really depends on your image and how you feel when you look at photos. My Bridesmaids are all doing their hair and have zero instruction from me. I don't care what they do. I love these people and I want them to be themselves. Some women look better with hair up or down and women have different hair types. So it isn't always easy to ask them to do something similar. For make-up, if having a makeup artist is an option, tell them that and how much it would cost for them. Leave it up to them. That is exactly what I did. Some women may choose to do it themselves and save money or maybe they are comfortable doing their own and others may prefer to pay for someone to do it if that is the option. But telling them what their options are and the cost... there is nothing wrong with that.

I prefer when everyone looks different, it looks more like an actual group of friends than a group of props. If you do want it all done professionally then you would be the one to pay for it, not the bridesmaids so you have to decide if you want to spend all that money or if you're happy with their own abilities. Either way I'd still let them choose different styles so it looks more individual

Heck no! Actually I have always done my own thing for all the weddings I have been a bridesmaid. You do you and rock your day!

PS- I am doing my own hair and make up and my girls are as well on my wedding day. But if they wanted to hire someone for themselves that would be fine too

I’m curious how this played out in the end. Beauty as you know is a very individualism and personal thing.
