Hair or Makeup first?

Lauren, on May 9, 2019 at 5:23 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 16

I'm having a chicken or the egg dilemma. Which should be done first Hair or Makeup? I have to travel to my hair appointment on the day of so I scheduled it first thing at 8:00 am, I figured I would have makeup come to my house after my hair was done.

Once I started talking to pros for quotes of course the hair pros say makeup first so you don't have to move your hair and risk messing it up for makeup. And I figured hair first so that spraying hairspray, having hair in my face, etc. won't mess up my makeup.

    I’ve always seen hair first.

I’m doing makeup first, mostly. I’m doing my own makeup and having my hair done professionally... I am so worried that after my hair stylist leaves, I’ll mess up the hair while pushing it out of the way to do my makeup! I think I will do most of my makeup before she arrives and then once she’s done with my hair, I’ll probably do an extra layer of powder and touch up anything that may have gotten messy

Do your hair first. Your makeup will melt with the hot tools used for your hair!

You are so right! How come I didn't think about that?! I would have been pissed if I spent so much to get my makeup done and it melted off. I already have to worry about it melting off because with my luck it will be 90+ degrees on my wedding day.

I’m getting mine done on site by the same person, but she is doing my hair first.

It's more common to do hair first for the reasons already stated here. I had the same person do both and she did my hair first and then my makeup.

I guess I'm the odd one out. My stylist duo wants to do makeup first, then hair.

Daughter had the same person for both. She first did a lot of the "prep" on daughter's long, thick hair -- curling and spraying her hair into long ringlets -- and then pinning the front section away from her face. She then did daughter's make-up, and, after that, finished daughter's hair, including putting her jeweled hairband in place, braiding the front sections of her hair, and finally creating an elaborate updo in the back. It was a little over 2 hours total for daughter to be "picture perfect"!

It really took 2 full hours?! My stylist said it would take 2 hours for me alone, but I thought she was just over-estimating to be cautious.

Yes.... Smiley winking It took at least that at her trial, and just about two hours the morning of the wedding. She looked gorgeous and both her hair and make-up held up perfectly for more than 12 hours! Beauty takes time! Smiley heart (And, she arrived with clean dry hair, so she was ready to go.)

I'm definitely doing hair first! One of my bridesmaids is doing my hair, so she will be with me every step of the way if I need a touch up. Smiley smile

I always do my hair before my makeup anytime I go out, so that just seems like the natural thing to me.

Always hair, then makeup. You’ll sweat when you have curling irons twirling around your head.
