Hair or makeup first?

winnipegwriter, on August 17, 2015 at 11:56 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

At first, I was thinking I'd get my hair done first so my makeup is freshest. But now, I'm thinking my photographer will only get there for the second part of it, so I'm thinking I might want my makeup already done for the 'getting ready' photos. What are y'all doing first?

I got them done at the same place, and they said makeup should always be done first. I *think* this is because if they mess up the makeup, then they may need you to wash your face, and that could mess up your hair if it's already been done. But anyway, that's the order I did it and it worked out great.

I'm doing my hair first and then my makeup. My photographer won't be there until we're actually getting dressed, so I wanted my makeup to be as fresh as possible.

Ask your glam squad! (Aka hair & makeup artists) They will usually have a preference based on past brides. Mine is a two person team, so they work at the same time! Talk about feeling special on your big day

My beauty team made a schedule for my bridal party and me and originally had me listed as doing my hair first. But the timing got off and they moved my makeup first. It wasn't a big deal either way. I agree with Sarah and that you should ask your artists. I think you'll enjoy whichever getting ready shots you end up with.

My makeup artist happened to touch my head a lot while she was applying it, so I did makeup first for my wedding. My sister's wedding this weekend i did hair first, and the make up artist had a bracelet that got caught in my hair -_- i don't think it really matters though.

I got them done one right after the other, but I had my makeup done first.

I had my hair pinned up first so that my curls would last longer but had my makeup finished before my hair was actually done.

I did hair and then make up. My hair was an up-do though so it wasn't really going anywhere once it was finished.

I got them done back to back at the same salon, but they did mine and my MOH hair first then make up. We had no issues.

My hair stylist is starting first but my make up artist will probably start towards the end while she's finishing up my hair. They know each other and are fine working at the same time but the make up artist did recommend that any curling/teasing/pulling of hair be done before make up so my head isn't moving.

My MUA recommends doing your make up first so that way if they have to clip your hair back so it isn't in your face it does not ruin your hair.

If for any reason you're getting it done at a salon and they are washing your hair and then drying/up do then hair first. If your hair will be dry and they are only styling it/putting it up then you can safely do MU first.

(ETA: I only know because my mom is a hair stylist and this is what she's always told me)

I'd rather have my make-up done last so it's a little "fresher"

I got hair, then makeup, but I had my hair down and bangs so I think that would have damaged the makeup if I had had it done afterwards. But if you're having a complicated updo with tons of hairspray, then have your makeup done first - otherwise they'll be applying it over a layer of hairspray on your skin, lol.

Thanks, ladies! Turns out my decision has been made for me. My MUA has to go to another wedding so she needs to be done with us earlier than anticipated. So I'll be getting makeup done first (still last out of all the girls) and then my updo.

I'm doing it all myself so I will be going with my usual plan. I wash my hair first, then it air dries part way while I start my makeup. I blow dry it the rest of the way once it's almost there and then put it up before finishing my makeup. I actually like how my hair looks once it starts to loosen and fall just a touch so I care more that my makeup is fresh. None will take long though so really I won't have to start super early.
