Hair trial didn't really go to plan :(

Hi all,

Hoping someone here has been in a similar situation and has some advice.
I had my wedding hair trial a few days ago. The stylist was lovely, polite and professional and took a lot of care and time into making sure I felt happy with what she'd created for me.
However, I had no real idea about how I was going to feel about seeing the looks I was using as inspiration on me as I've never had my hair styled properly before. I'm pretty useless at hair on my own so I literally always wear my hair down, either straightened or with a few curls at the front (that I can do 😆). I mainly looked at up dos as my wedding is in August so I figured an up do might be a more sensible choice given the weather is likely to be hot. As pretty as the first style was, I didn't feel it looked right on me and I wasn't exactly elated with how I looked. I told the stylist this so we tried another look. The second look I really really liked in the moment (a sort of hair up but not do) and she did a fabulous job of it, so I said I was happy to go with it... now I'm having second thoughts.
As pretty as it was, looking back at the photos I feel as though the hair being pulled off my face made it look rounder and wider. I also had the opportunity to try my dress on again yesterday and realised my shoulders and back are more exposed in the dress than I perhaps remembered they will be. I get spots on my back and shoulders, and realised they'd be quite visible with my hair is up (I tried it on with my hair down). They're not massive, but I'm worried having them on show will kind of ruin the overall look and spoil the elegance and I'm thinking perhaps my hair will be better half up/half down now.
My hair did kind of fall into a twisted half up/down style in between the two we trialled, which the stylist took a pic of (but hasn't got around to sending it to me yet). I also liked that one and told her this.
Time wise I don't know if I will be able to book a second trial in.
Can I tell the stylist I've changed my mind and ask if I can have a half up/half down style instead? Or do I kind of have to go with the one I picked? There was another bride waiting for her trial in the salon at the time as mine had run over a bit, so I suppose I felt slightly rushed to make a choice.

Sorry for the essay. Thank you all for your advice in advance.

When I went for hair and makeup trial, the makeup artist that would be doing my makeup on the day of the wedding unfortunately couldn't make it so the woman who did my makeup took very detailed notes and pictures. At the time I loved my makeup but actually ended up changing things for the wedding. My first change was that I decided I wanted false eyelashes. I hadn't had them before when I did my trial but my brother got married after my trial and before my wedding and I was maid of honor and decided to try them out so see if I liked them. I did so I wanted them for my wedding. The second change was that I wanted a different lip color. During the trial I picked a bright red but after showing pictures to my mom and grandmother they both thought it was too dramatic especially because I don't wear a ton of makeup to begin with. They were luckily able to accommodate both and I loved how it turned out. I didn't do a second trial. They did tell me that they built in a bit of extra time in case I didn't like it they could easily have me wash my face and redo it. Unfortunately I think hair takes longer and it might not be as easy to completely redo your hairstyle. Depending on when you get married I would probably consider a second trial.

Yes, you could most definitely tell your stylist you have decided you would like a half up half down do- by no means are you “trapped into” the style you thought you wanted at the trial (unless it specifically states that in your contract, which would be highly unlikely). The only caveat to this is that you won’t know for sure that you like it until you see it on you (as you learned with the other two styles). So, you will either need to book another trial to ensure you like that style, do a mock up of it at home yourself, or roll the dice and hope you like it day of. I know it’s a pain, but I would probably book another trial. Especially since you’ve already tried 2 styles, and haven’t felt confident with them. You don’t want to find yourself hating your hairstyle the day of your wedding.
One thing I would think about though is the weather where you are in the summer. Is it humid there? If so, you may end up with flat, frizzy hair if you wear it down. If an updo is a better option, you could always have your make up artist cover the spots on your back and shoulders.

Hey! Thanks so much for this advice. Do you think my MUA would charge extra for this? Would you ask before the trial or mention it there? I haven't had a make up trial yet.

I would shoot your MUA an email about including it in your trial. If she airbrushed the spots, it should hold up all day and night through humidity
