Hairdresser won’t accept new client

allisonrose, on May 24, 2019 at 6:05 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 8
I contacted a beauty salon who told me only 1 of their stylists works on Saturdays (which alone is odd because they heavily advertise that they do weddings) and is free but won’t accept a new client. Is this a normal thing that I’m just not aware of?

Stylists do get full up. Especially if you only want her for a single special occasion. I'm in the habit of asking a stylist if they're accepting new clients, if I know they're independent. If they work for a salon, it's a bit different, but in some salons, the stylists are still independent and just rent their chair. It's not super common, but can happen with someone popular.

I guess I just don’t see the difference if she’s available. I was looking to get 7 people’s hair done. Money is money, no? I feel as if it were me and I had an open day and was guaranteed to get 7 persons worth, I would do it. But, it is what it is obviously. Just had never heard of such a thing.

That's super weird! Is there a different salon you can use?

I've never heard of something like this either. I'd start looking for other salons that actually want my business Smiley smile

I actually think this is fairly common. My regular stylist does weddings, but only for her own current clients. All the girls who work in her salon do the same thing. Whether you have 7 people or not, taking on a wedding means finding an assistant (or bringing along another stylist that she’d have to split the money with) and losing out on a full day’s work while still paying her booth fee for that day at the salon. If she works solo at the salon on Saturdays, I bet she sees more than 7 clients in the hours she’s there.

I’ve talked to many salons and only got this response from this one. I think that these salons shouldn’t be advertising for weddings and attending bridal shows, like this one does, if they will only take current clients. 🤷‍♀️

Yes thing is unfortunately a thing. I am assuming that her appointment is open for a client that she already has. People do this in order to keep a certain number of clients that they regularly work with.
