Hair/makeup For 5 Girls Plus Bride Question

Haley, on May 17, 2019 at 8:32 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 1 14

I have a hair/makeup girl that I use and she says she can do 5 bridesmaids plus me by herself. I know this will take a while but it's in my budget and I think it would be fine. However, I am getting outside criticism that 1 hair/mua is not enough for 6 of us and I need someone who has an assistant. What did yall do? Opinions?

We have two stylists and a makeup artist booked for me, 3 bridesmaids and 1 flower girl. I definitely don’t think one girl can do 6 people (12 services) unless you’re planning on starting super early in the day. My hair stylist said 45 minutes per bridesmaid and 1-1.5 hours for my hair. Makeup artist said 30-45 minutes per bridesmaid and 45 minutes- 1 hour for me.

I have one make up artist who is doing 5 of us. This is the schedule she provided me:

9:20 am: Arrival and Set up

    9:40 am - 10:20 am: Person #1

    10:20 am - 11:00 am: Person #2

    11:00 am - 11:40 am: Person #3

    11:40 am - 12:20 pm: Person #4

    12:20 pm - 1:00 pm: Bride

1:00 pm - 1:15 pm: Touch ups & extra time (if needed)

I also have a separate hair stylist (and assistant) that will be working on hair during that time. I have more girls getting hair done, than I do makeup. So, there will be one make up artist and two hair stylists total.

Go with what's in your budget. If you can only have one then just carve out the time and make sure she has enough time to do everyone and then a little cushion for touch ups and whatnot. Having an assistant would help speed things up, and if you're sticking with just one, ask for a timeline from her so you can get an idea of how long she'll need for everyone.

We had 2 stylists who did both hair and makeup for 6 people and it took a little over 4 hours to finish us all up. And that included all manual makeup, 2 simple pixie cuts, 1 down, 2 half up, and 1 updo.

We have two stylists for 7 of us and with two they have to start at 11am for a 5pm wedding. If she feels comfortable that she can do it then its your judgement if you trust that or not. I think having an assistant for that many people is usually the norm though

One artist for hair AND makeup for 5? I'd say that would be tough. I'd just ask her exactly how long she thinks she'll need. We had 10 services also (7 makeup and 3 hair) and we had 2 stylists for 4 hours. So to have 10 services provided by only one artist seems tough.

We are having two possibly three stylist for me (bride), the mother of the bride, grandmother of the bride, two flower girls, 1 groomswoman, and 3 bridesmaids. The stlyist I booked with said it would take about 5 hours for all of us with 2-3 stlyists.

How early are you having to wake up for this? I have 2 hairstylists and 1 makeup artist. I, as a bridesmaid, would be pissed if I have to wake up at the crack of dawn to make the schedule work with 6 girls and 1 stylist. I personally wouldn't do this. I'd say let her do one or the other then hire the other service to have 2 people come out. You have plenty of time to do so too with your wedding in late 2020..

I have 6 bridesmaids plus me and my mom son8 of us total and the salon I hired said I’d have 1 makeup artist and 1 hair stylist for each of us, which did make me pretty nervous. However, when I did my trial, I saw how fast and efficient they were with their work and it completely put my mind at ease.

I decided to ask my BM how many of them actually want their hair & mu done. I just kind of assumed they'd all do it. Now they're all telling me something different. Good thing I have plenty of time to figure this out......haha

I will have one hair stylist - she will be doing me, my 4 bridesmaids (well, one is her, haha), my mom, and my FMIL. So seven all together, she said she will have plenty of time. My MUA, right now, is only doing my makeup. I doubt any of my bridesmaids will want to get theirs done at $45 and I'm not requiring makeup, just hair (which I'm covering). I say it just depends on your stylists capabilities. If she says she can do all of them herself, then I wouldn't hire another.

I will have one hair stylist on site, she is also a family friend invited to the wedding. But there are going to be 5 or 6 getting hair done. I am not paying for it, so I am making it optional for everyone. So my mom, myself, my MOH, one BM (my cousin) and I also have 1 bridesmaid that isn't sure yet, along with my FSIL. So I have 2 maybes but 4 for that are getting their hair done. The hair stylist is planning on arriving around 10 to start, this might vary depending on my 2 maybes. Ceremony we are planning to start around 3. We will be doing our own makeup. But I think the hair stylist knows what they are capable of and approximately how much time they will need.

That is a lot for one person. I think it would take at least 6 hours minimum to do all those people. Probably closer to 8 depending on what needs doing. Do have enough time in your schedule let alone patience for it?
