Hair/makeup trials?

Rachel, on September 13, 2020 at 4:02 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 13
Hi, ladies!

This is sort of a naive question, but when you scheduled your hair and makeup trials, did that also include a trial for others getting their hair/makeup done or was it just for yourself? My mom and I will probably be the only ones getting our hair and makeup professionally done. I have an unconventional wedding party that will consist of mainly guys and just one bridesmaid (my sister). My sister isn’t the overly girly type and she only wears does her hair and makeup for special occasions (which she does herself) so I won’t be picky with what she does.

I did it only for myself! Some of my girls weren’t interested in doing it and some of them did it themselves

That’s good to know! I’m not having an overblown wedding party so it’ll likely just by my mom and I getting ours professionally done. 😊

When I was a bridesmaid in other weddings, I never did a hair trial. I definitely plan on doing one for my own wedding, but I don't anticipate that any of my bridesmaids will do a trial (though they certainly have the option if they'd like!). Maybe mention it to your mom and sister and see if either one of them are interested in a trial?

Usually it's just for you. You can ask and see if they are interested and if the beauty team will do a trial.

When I schedule mine, it was just for me. My FMIL (who already committed to hair & make-up day of) naturally had to complain that if she doesn’t do one she won’t know if she likes it, if the artist will be able to match her skin color, etc. I told her she can schedule one on her own (and pay for it herself) and got her in contact with the owner to set it up. She never responded to their email or phone calls to schedule the trial. My mom is only doing hair as she doesn’t wear makeup and my sister is my only bridal party member who is getting hair & make-up. Neither of them will have a trial. Each person is paying their own way as it is optional. My mom & I are paying for my flower my two flower girls hair (my nieces) since it was my idea and I want them to be included in the process.

Both my MUA and hair stylist included trials for just me in the pricing, but I’m sure you could ask! There will probably be an upcharge though.

Just me! I've never heard of people besides the bride getting a hair or makeup trial

It included just myself but my MOH and BM wanted to go with me anyway, so we made a day of it. But I didn't require them to do a trial, and my stylist didn't charge them extra for like "wedding" prices or anything, just regular blowout prices.

I'm sure your mom can if she wants to, but I think the bride is typically the only one who gets a trial. The bride's hair and makeup are usually much more intricate than the bridal party, so it's usually good to have a plan of action for how things will go.

My contract only included my trial. For my mom to have a trial there was an extra cost. Best to check with your H/M company.

Normally it is only for the bride. I think you can request that they do a trial for your bridesmaid, but I'm sure you'll have to pay extra.

I did not include others in my trial, but I have a unique circumstance. I started with 6 bridesmaids, now I only have 3 (only one is from the original 6). When I thought about these trials I only thought about myself (if I'm being honest) and they did not seem interested. I asked my bridesmaids if they want their hair and makeup done for the wedding, some said yes, some said no. I don't particularly think they needed a trial run though. I think that they can see the quality of the hairstylist/mua from my trials. I told them they are free to do what they want, I am not picky. I also know that not everyone can afford to spend the extra money on trials.
When I got my makeup trial done, I actually did my engagement pictures that same day (so it wouldn't go to waste and trials can get expensive). Every bride is different, but my advice to you is to atleast give them the option.
