Halloween 2020 Wedding help!

Tasha, on November 5, 2019 at 11:04 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 8

So our venue only had 10/31/20 available (after attempting literally ALL the venues in the area for 10/10/2020 availability lol) So we thought, what the hell, why not? I'm definitely more dark/witchy than the FH. I was looking at black wedding dresses before he even proposed, so I'm super stoked! However, he wants a more literal, everyone in costume type Halloween wedding and I'm thinking more spooky/gothic type.

So, I guess my question is, how do you compromise and plan a non cheesy, fun Halloween wedding without overdoing the orange/black/pumpkin thing?

We are having an outdoor ceremony, inside refinished barn reception. Wood fired pizza truck for catering, and coffee /hot chocolate bar & s'mores at the fire pit.

Any ideas you could share to keep it classy?

Since it's the two of you's wedding, compromise is definitely needed! Talk it out and decide on a happy middle ground so you get your classy event and FH gets his fun. By the way, I love your idea of a black wedding dress!

I love a Halloween wedding! I would say you could have a masquerade/mask thing to compromise maybe? That way people still dress appropriately but can still partake in a "costume" if that is what your FH wants. Not sure if this is a horrible idea but the first thought that came to my mind!

Also, all of your venue/food selections sound amazing!! Good luck!

If you want your wedding to be classy, I would avoid costumes unless you did something like a masquerade. As for the black/orange/pumpkin I would pick very subtle things with these. To me, spooky/gothic is black so I don't know how you'd make it spooky/gothic without overdoing black. I think if you want to do a black wedding dress, I would put your bridesmaids in a dress with color to break up some of the black.

Yes I think costumes in general would make it not classy, but if you chose a theme like masquerade or maybe 1920’s themed, since that usually was suits and flapper dresses, I think it would keep it cohesive and classy in photos. Your bridesmaids could wear long velvet red or burgundy dresses with long black gloves for both theme ideas. Just popped in my head so I thought I’d share. 😊

Perhaps you could do a Halloween Masquerade! That way people can get dressed up in more normal wedding attire, but can add the Halloween fun with extravagant masks or fascinator hats! It keeps it fun with the date but if someone didn't want to dress in a mask they won't stick out!

Thank you all for the suggestions! I was initially against the idea of a masquerade, as I thought that might be too cliche. I have since fund some inspiration, and have gone full blown, "mad hatter, dark tea party masquerade" down the rabbit hole of ideas. Smiley heart
