Halo engagement ring problems

Victoria, on August 28, 2017 at 10:05 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 36

A couple weeks after my fiancé proposed I went to a jewelers with my best friend to get our rings cleaned. When we got our rings back the jeweler notice a stone was missing from my halo, he went to check the machine and it was there. I had them reset the stone, and they also checked the rest to make sure they were ok. Today as I was getting ready to leave work I looked down at my ring and noticed a different stone was missing from my halo! I do work a lot with my hands so my ring is getting bumped around, but I think it's ridiculous that this is the second time this has happened.

Wondering if any one else has had any problems with their rings

I had the same problem with my halo. I had to go back to the jeweler twice like you. The second time I made it clear that I did not expect to have to come back again with the same problem. I don't know what they did but I've not had a problem since. Not sure why I had the problem initially other than to say shoddy workmanship with the prongs.

I've had my halo ring since December, and no problems with loose stones at all. I also have little diamonds on the sides and bottom of the halo.

I know that it's not out of the ordinary to lose stones from a halo setting but I agree with Elephaba, over the course of a month and you've lost two stones is a little strange to me.

ETA I am pretty careful with my ring though. I don't sleep or shower with it on, and I work at a desk so at work i keep it on a ring holder at my desk to avoid bumping it around.

How thin is your halo? I was warned not to go below 2 mm for that very reason. Also, the metal can play a part since some warp more easily than others.

Oooooo and before I forget, if you use your hands a lot I would look into getting a silicone ring.

@Ariella #1 I LOVE your name, 2 you're right I definitely need to get a silicone ring. People have been telling me not to wear my ring at work, I just hate not wearing my ring!

I have several small diamonds in my ring and haven't had a problem. It could be the gold you have, platinum is stronger and holds the smaller diamonds better. I had a mother of

Pearl promise ring and I lost the pearl inlay often, like three times the inlay would come out. I had to get it repaired often.

I never take my halo off and haven't had any problems. I clean, shower, go to the beach, work, etc with my ring on. Definitely need to go to the jeweler where the ring was purchased and talk to them.

How small is your ring size? I wear a 2.5 and was told I could only get a high set solitaire to prevent stones from falling out

    Haha thank you Smiley smile

And I know exactly what you mean but, some silicone rings I actually find to be cute. But, I think you might have to look into a new setting. You should be able to bang your ring a bit without this issue. If it's well set you could probably wear it to work more often. The design is beautiful and I don't see it being the problem, might just he something wonky from when it was being crafted :/

@Jessica my ring is a 6.5 when I got it sized they said it shouldn't be a problem unless I went under a 6, bc of the diamonds on the band

I've had one stone fall out of my halo, but they fixed it and haven't had issues since.

I would talk to your jeweler about how to avoid this issue in the future. They may suggest just wearing the wedding band (eventually) or getting a silicone ring.

It's odd. I would talk to the jeweler about it.

I work with my hands a lot. I lift weights and go rock climbing with my ring on. I have never had a problem.

I have a halo ring and experienced problems with the smaller stones falling out. After the THIRD time, I spoke to a manager and she had them take a closer look and made sure they addressed any issues with the prongs. I've not had a problem since. Fortunately, hubby had gotten the lifetime maintenance plan so we never have to pay for any of the stones. (This is at Jared) Like Erin said, I would talk to manager. Good luck!
