HALP. Is wine in plastic glasses tacky?

So.Many.Questions, on April 3, 2016 at 3:53 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 42

We're working on stocking our bar, and we have to buy EVERYTHING for it, including drink ware, etc. I was planning on doing beer, wine and mixed drinks and just having the clear disposable cups..... But I don't know how I feel about drinking wine from plastic. Should I be buying actual wine glasses for the bar or am I making too big a deal out of this?

Where is your venue? Seriously, it's not the end of the world to use plastic.

Depends on the style of the wedding and venue I think. If you're in a ballroom or very elegant venue than buy them. If you're hosting a backyard bbq I don't think anyone will mind.

How formal is your event? Is it in your budget to rent glass cups? Like if it was clear plastic and they were sorta nice I personally wouldnt mind.

I wasnt allowed glass so I had to do this. There are various grades of plastic cups. Look for shorter ones that are cryatal clear plastic and not opaque-y at all. It will be fine Smiley smile

Any wedding I've been to has had all their drinks in plastic cups. I wouldn't think twice about it! Plus it's much easier to clean up than real glasses.

They have cute monogrammed ones on etsy! We have the same issue with our venue- still not sure what we're going to do but it's an option.

That sounds like a personal problem.

I think Nastassia's opinion is a little extreme, but some people really do not like drinking from plastic. The environmental aspect also really makes me cringe. What kind of wedding are you having/what is your venue? We went to an outdoor event recently where they gave all guests a stainless steel glass as the "souvenir," and not only was it easy to use at the event (they don't stick or retain flavors, so a rinse was all you needed if you switched drinks), I've used it several times since then.

I love Starbucks and bottled water.

And I went to a wedding 2 weeks ago with cute plastic tumblers personalized to the bride and groom. I loved them and the drinks tasted great.

Lol my grocery store has single serving tetra packs of wine. Like grown-up juice boxes! So tempted to pick some up for sneaking into the movie theatre haha

Some high end art galleries use plastic to serve their wine at functions.

Looks like nastassia is gonna be damn thirsty at your wedding.

So for plastic, should they look like wine glasses? Or just the same plastic cups for all the drinks

I had larger cups for cocktails and beer, shorter ones for wine.

I think for outdoor venues or semi-formal weddings, its totally fine as long as its a bit nicer than a red solo cup.

Yes, NO SOLO BEER PONG CUPS! lol

Get completely clear ones. They look nicer.
