Hand written vs printed envelopes?

Gbees4121, on July 21, 2021 at 10:08 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 19
Hi! How does everyone feel about a hand written addressed envelope for invites? Not a fancy calligraphy, but just my (and FH's) handwriting. I see a lot of invites with labels or printed on addresses, but I absolutely adore the hand written addressed letters! It feels more personal to me, but I don't want to look cheap of chinzy. Thoughts?

I think they're great no matter what you do, and they're going to get thrown away anyway so most people won't care one way or another lol.

We are printing ours only because I'm left handed and we both have terrible handwriting, so ours would get smeared and be illegible. I'm also a graphic designer who works at a print shop, so it's kind of a no-brainer if I'm printing my own invites to just print the addresses too.

Whatever you want! I like either one but I honestly don't pay much attention to the envelope since I throw it out.

We're ordering our invites from Minted and they do free address printing, so we're going that route lol. Minted has tons of pretty fonts to choose from too, so we like that a lot!

I hand wrote everything. I think it’s more personalized and shows you put more time and effort into it. Personally, I’m the same way I like hand written. The printed labels look nice, but I’d rather hand written.

We used Minted for all our stationary.
For our "Save The Date" we did the addresses printed on the envelope, but unfortunately had a lot of issues with that. So when we ordered invitations I decided to hand write who it was for and the address.
Honestly either way works and looks great.

Handwritten is nice, but I don't love my handwriting or the time it takes to address almost 100 invitations, especially for something people will almost immediately throw away. We used Minted for our invitations, which has free addressing with tons of font options (including some that look handwritten), but we had formatting issues and ended up just using labels instead and they looked fine!

As a guest, I doubt I would even notice and I certainly wouldn't care if I did notice. All superfluous paper gets recycled immediately in my house since I can't stand clutter. As a bride, I knew that my handwriting was terrible and the post office would GREATLY prefer if I used printed labels, so I did. Smiley laugh

Like everyone else has said it looks great! I wish I had good handwriting I may have written mine out too! But ultimately the envelope is ripped open and tossed almost immediately so I didn't want to waste time and I'm glad I ended up just printing labels for them all. Waaaay easier and my hand thanks me

I'm printing labels out at home. My handwriting isn't bad, but not the best, and I don't wanna deal with metallic paint markers for addresses on a dark green envelope.

Hand written envelopes are such a rarity that people treasure them. You don’t have to have pretty writing because it only gets to the location.

Printed is fine but make sure it doesn’t look like the formal junk mail that is so popular right now.
I can speak from experience on why to avoid labels. Beyond that they look like a mass mailing, I have received a few that were so smeared in transit that they barely made it to the mailbox. Others mentioned at other events they never got theirs because the labels didn’t last in the mail so they never got where they were supposed to.

I don't see any issue with hand writing on the envelopes, as long as your handwriting is fairly neat. If you have a lot to go out it could be time consuming though.

We used address labels for our invitation envelopes printing using a laser printer and address label stamps and we had no issue with them smearing or getting lost in the mail. I hand wrote the names on our escort cards.

Like Shy I throw out the envelope as soon as I open it, so it seems like a lot of effort for something that will be seen for 15 seconds and thrown in the trash. I totally believe thank you cards should be hand written (not necessary hand addressed, but there should be a personalized, hand written message on the inside) but I think the envelope is such a minor detail that as long as the address is clear enough for it to get where it needs to go, it doesn't really matter how its labeled.

Do whatever you want. At the end of the day most people don't remember what the invite looked like. I've been a bridesmaid 7 times and couldn't tell you what a single invite looked like. I didn't realize how much I had learned about weddings during all of those though.

You perfectly described why I like hand written envelopes better! Labels feel like spam or mass mailing. I was honestly just worried I would look cheap for hand writing. Thanks for your thoughts 💖

I manually printed each of our invitations (using a real nice calligraphy font ~ the same font for both the return address & "to" address) & hand wrote all the thank you card addresses. I felt "labels" where not appropriate for a wedding invitation (likely due to some etiquette thing I read somewhere). I would have hand written them but my handwriting isn't the greatest either & felt the calligraphy font added a little something.

Would be so nice if you do handwriting and the wax stamps 🥰 I am definitely going with that vibe

I printed mine... I didn't wanna pay for calligraphy and I don't like my handwriting.

I had a great vendor on Etsy do labels. Mainly because I was in a major car accident this past June and I'm still super sore and banged up. I did wrap around labels so our return address is on one end and the recipient on the other.
