Hi! We are wanting to do both handfasting and exchange wedding bands. Guessing you do the wedding bands first? Anyone who’s done both in their ceremony please share! Thanks!!

We're doing a handfasting, as well, and I'm glad you brought this up because we haven't planned it out just yet. I found this article that may be helpful.

FH and I plan on doing the same thing and I actually looked this up as to when in the ceremony it would be done. They said that it can be done before the vows are said, as the vows are being said or before the kiss. We are having a family friend marry us so we are going to talk with him and see when would be the best time for us since we are writing our own vows so possibly before the vows for us.

Hey Shannon! Welcome to the WeddingWire community! As the previous posters have mentioned, your handfasting ceremony can occur at any time during your wedding ceremony but it would usually be done at the same time as your vows. Smiley smile

This is cows we want to use and this ceremony for the handfasting. We are trying to figure out would we do the exchange of rings before this or after? Normally rings come after vows. So if we did it after, we’d have to skip out of the ribbons, right?

I think traditionally it's done with your vows. However I am sure you can do it whenever it fits best with your ceremony.

Just looked at our ceremony. The order our officiant has it is handfasting, then vows. After the vows, one of the wedding party will remove the cords, then we do the ring exchange. Honestly, you can probably do it however you really want! We are doing the colored hand fasting ceremony so we will have 6 different colored cords. Each will represent something to the marriage.

Can you share what you chose? We want to do our handfasting ceremony during our vows, but would like to remain bound until the end of the ceremony. I was thinking of wrapping the chord strategically around one hand each, so that we are still able to place the rings. Has anyone done the ring exchange while still bound?
