Handfasting Ceremonies

Jennifer, on November 5, 2020 at 8:18 PM Posted in Planning 1 3

Has anyone else done a handfasting ceremony? I would love to hear more details about how you personalized it or ways that you incorporated it into a traditional, non-pagan ceremony? No offense to anyone...I'm Christian, and just don't want to use pagan vows... however, I admire and respect pagan traditions and find them very spiritually meaningful. Would also love to see or hear about materials that you used or how you tied them. Thank you all and best wishes on your special day! Smiley heart

I have never seen one in person but I've seen them on a YouTube video.

Handfasting is Christian, as well, it is not just pagan. You could probably find them in Celtic history sites, as priests were hard to come by, so handfasting was done to solidify things before the priest got there.

If you wish to do a Christian handfasting, speak to your pastor/priest about it. They will direct you to the proper resources.

Please do not use another religion's rites in your religion's ceremony.

We did a pagan handfasting as part of our mixed faith ceremony. We worked with our officiant and I did my own research on the internet into what I wanted.

But, again, if you want a handfasting in a Christian ceremony, there are Christian handfasting traditions, you do not need pagan ones.

Hi Jennifer! There's great information about handfasting ceremonies and the traditions behind them in this article: Everything to Know About the Handfasting Ceremony Tradition.

You can also talk to your officiant about different ways to personalize or change the handfasting ceremony to better suit you!
