Handwriting Invitation Addresses

Matt & Crystal, on February 24, 2015 at 6:13 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 25

Invites are going out in little over a month Smiley smile I have decent cursive and was thinking of handwriting the addresses on the invitation envelope. I can not imagine paying a calligrapher. Until planning my OWN wedding I've never noticed other wedding invitations I've received to compare. What do you think about writing my own with a super duper cool pen??!

I never really notice the address writing. The envelop just goes in the trash. I just picked a pretty font, printed labels, and saved myself the time.

That's what I'm doing! Scrolled through pages and pages of fonts until I found one I loved, practiced all the letters a few times and got to work. They're looking great so far! Just be ready for some hand cramps.

Breanna could you post some pictures? Also any pens that make your handwriting look nicer/fancier than it actually is?

My friend offered to write the addresses for me, as she has way better hand writing than me...

If you have nice handwriting then go for it. no one really pays attention to the addresses anyways. but i totally understand you wanting it to look nice anyway, Just take frequent breaks, that way when your hand starts cramping you dont mess up. good luck

I handwrote all of my invites, and this post helped me a lot. I used a fine tip Sharpie. http://cupcakesandcashmere.com/diy/faux-calligraphy

    I hand-wrote mine. I'm also a fountain pen geek.

Get a fountain pen with either a stub nib or an italic nib (my favorite is currently a Parker Sonnet, but you'll pay around $100 for it) - or a flex pen (like a Noodler's Ahab - $20 but requires practice with it). Then get gorgeous inks - check out Gouletpens.com.

I bought a dip calligraphy pen and ink and am in the process of doing my own. So far I did all of the RSVP envelopes with our address and it turned out pretty good. Definitely took some practice but it was fun. I bought the supplies from designroots.com

I sort of hand wrote mine.

I printed the names on the envelopes using a light colored font in the same color as my pen and then traced over it. I wrote the addresses out in block lettering. I have pretty good handwriting, but I wanted their names to look extra special. I also haven't perfected my cursive for some uppercase letters and didn't want to make those look odd.

@Charla, that's a good point. I did all the names in a pretty swirly cursive, but then did the addresses in block writing. I wanted to make sure they actually got delivered.

Since I'll only have 10 or 11 invitations, I am going to very nicely ask my Mom to address them because she has beautiful handwriting! Smiley smile

I wrote them out by hand, with a ball point pen. It does not smudge the way others do.

I think that would be a great idea, if you are willing to go through the work. I personally don't have good handwriting at all, so I would never do it!!!!

My cursive looks like a seven year old's. I posted last week (I think) about handwriting addresses in print. Consensus was that it's fine, as long as it's neat. I'm sure your cursive is more than acceptable. Smiley smile

MY FMIL actually commented on this after I sent my save the dates, which I hand wrote all the envelopes - which I love writing so it was not a big deal for me. A bit time consuming, I had approx. 50 envelopes to write out. I did them in increments of time. Some today, a little tomorrow. I got a cool pen. But, after talking with FMIL, she told me that on MarthaStewart.com they have pretty clear labels you can buy and they aren't that expensive, its the least of the cost of a wedding ... labels, so I plan on using labels and printing them out at home for the wedding invitations, just because it looks a bit more formal than handwriting. Although, I've been told, and agree, that handwritten is so personal and special in its own way. Guess its your choice.

Avery makes sheets of address label stickers that you can run through your printer. You buy the labels and go to their website and you can use your own fonts to add writing and pictures to the labels.

Handwriting is neat, but I've never once paid any attention to the envelope. Do it if it makes you happy, otherwise save your hand and print labels.
