Handwritten or typed address?

Anonymous, on April 5, 2011 at 4:29 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 28

This has probably already been asked, but I really need to get these invitations out ASAP. Is it ok to type the addresses in a fancy font and print on white label stickers? I don't want to pay a calligrapher. I can do calligraphy but I am really bad with keeping everything centered. Has anyone had luck printing on the actual envelope? Advice?

I'm addressing each of my invitations personally using a calligraphy pen (even though I don't actually know how to use it, I just want the bolded look).

My friend printed on the envelopes and didn't have much trouble with it.

I personally like hand written invites even if they are not done in calligraphy. If you want to do labels I would suggest getting a clear label instead of white.

I am printing mine on a clear label, you can't even tell they are on a label and I think they look professional enough! Not sure how to print on an envelope, but you could probably do that too!

I printed labels and stuck them on. People throw the envelope out anyway, so it wasn't a big deal for us. It also makes it easy when I go to do thank you cards, as all the addresses are ready to go and I can print them off again. It's what is on the inside that counts!

I did what Natalie said for my STDs. I printed using a nice font right onto the envelope. So no labels

I used clear labels on my RSVP envelopes, and they showed because the envelopes are red.

If the envelopes are white, you can get away with clear labels. But printing on the envelopes isn't that hard. I'd try to do that if you can.

No. We did them one at a time. It took a bit longer, but this way I knew they wouldn't get stuck. I also did a couple of tests. I made sure to adjust the margins (the physical one) on the printer to the size of the envelope. I didn't just use word margins.

I used clear labels and printed the addresses onto the labels. Smiley smile the labels cost 13 bucks on walmart.com, and the template is free to download from avery.com

We're using clear labels on ours. I have 100 invitations, so that's a lot to hand write. Professionally calligraphy looks amazing, but IMO typed/printed usually looks better than "normal" handwriting, and it costs way less than calligraphy. My advice would be to print on clear labels or the envelopes themselves (if you have plenty of extras and are brave enough, I'm not) if you can't afford professional calligraphy. I for one have never received a printed envelope in the mail and been offended that the sender didn't take the time to write my name by hand.

We printed ours out on clear labels, like most of the ladies that have responded. I'm with Kathryn, people just throw the envelopes away anyway.

I have Arthritis and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. I can't sit down and write out 50 envelopes, especially since you shouldn't abbreviate. Hiring a calligrapher is not in the budget. So, we also are using Avery's clear labels. I bought the bigger sized label 1 1/3 X 4 ", so the Lucinda Calligraphy font could be larger. The template was very easy to use. I am handwriting the names for the inside envelopes, though.

I am also printing my "thank you for coming notes" that will go into my welcome bags. I will hand write the names on the outside envelope.

However, I will hand write my actual thank yous. It may kill me, but I have to do it. I think I am borderline bad manners printing the other stuff as it is. Smiley smile

I hand wrote mine. They weren't calligraphy but I think they turned out well. I just think that handwritten makes them more personal. We also have a lot of older, more traditional guests who might be offended by the use of labels.

I hand wrote all of mine. I used a ruler. It took me a while doing inner and outer in different pen, but they came out nice.

Considering we sent out over 200 invites. I paid a little extra, not much, to have my invite designer print the guest and return addresses on ours. I did however, handwrite their addresses on bridal shower and wedding thanks you's, but used some cute return address labels I had made at vistaprint.

My handwritting/calligraphy isn't horrible, I just write on a slant all the time, even with lines. LOL

Its really easy to print out directly on the envelop, any word program has a template. I use it all the time for my brides. Remember your invitations sets the tone for your wedding, it gives the guests a idea of what to expect.

Maybe I'm just lazy but... I printed on labels in a regular font. I just didn't have time for anything else, plus my handwriting is sloppy. I doubt most people will even notice and those that do probably won't judge me for it. I'll take my chances.

I actually was willing to pay for calligraphy at $2 an envelope my order was going to be considered a rush and extra fee of $80. I didn't want to do that and then take the chance of not havinge my envelopes back by when I needed them. Thanks to my MOH she addressed all of my ivites for me because I knew I wasn't going to do it. It was only 50 though. But I would prefer handwritten for the invites. I did use the printed clear lables for my SDT's.

Because I just don't have the time to sit down and handwrite all the addresses, I found clear Avery labels ... I was fearful that it'd look tacky but my Mom reassured me it wouldn't ... plus I've received 3 other invites/stds in the mail since the beginning of the year and they were all typed address labels ...
