Has anyone been married at Sandals?

FlowerGirl, on April 6, 2015 at 10:50 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 9

Hi everyone!

I am planning my wedding at sandals Grande Rivera and I am wondering about documentation... Is it difficult? Does stuff get misplaced? Was it worth it? Thanks!

Call your travel agent asap. You should not be handling the documentation alone.

I just got married March 21st @ Sandals Antigua. They were awesome and took care of everything! You just need to make sure you send them everything up front when they ask for it, once you are there, they take care of everything. They drove us into town, we had to meet with someone for 2 seconds, papers signed then back to the resort and married 2 days later. It couldn't have went any smoother. Sandals was awesome! And to add... my travel agent was USELESS! Sandals coordinated everything for us. It's kinda what they do...

I would suggest having your legal wedding in the USA or doing a documented remarriage when you get back. It makes everything afterwards easier if your license originated here.

Future Mrs. L did you use a Romance Travel Agent? Destination Wedding Agents are different.

Celia is right (as usual lol). My brother and his wife had to get legally married in the US first. Then they went to Mexico and had a whole ceremony. They go by that date. Not the date they were married in the courthouse. I think it was like 2 weeks apart.

I used a regular travel agent. All he did was book our room for us at Sandals, he was useless because we could have done that ourselves. Sandals may do things differently for weddings. We filled out paperwork that sandals sent us for our marriage certificate, we emailed it to their Miami office. They took care of everything that needed to be done. When we arrived at Sandals in Antigua, we met with our wedding coordinator, they drove us in to town, filed all the paperwork necessary with the legal affairs office there, we had to meet with a woman to confirm our date of arrival since you have to be in Antigua for 48 hours before you can get married. She signed the paper (we arrived wednesday, she looked at our passports to confirm arrival date stamp) signed paperwork and gave back to Sandals person she filed that as well. Then Saturday, March 21st, we had our legal ceremony on the beach, signed our wedding certificates. Then After the ceremony, the next day Sandals filed that with Antigua and provided us with both the original and copy. We came home Tuesday, Wednesday i went to Social security, changed my name (they accepted my marriage certificate, it is legal), then friday i went to DMV, got a new license with my new name and then we went to the County courthouse here and put our marriage certficate on File with the county. It's all legal and we are officially married. Perhaps Sandals is just that awesome that they take care of everything for you so there is no issue? I have other friends that got married in Jamaica with Sandals, they did not have an issue either...

I was married at a Sandals in Jamaica the first time (10 years ago). We worked through our travel agent to get all the documentation done. It wasn't as scary as I thought, and weirdly enough we never had to file our marriage license in the US. I just had to take the Jamaican license to get my name changed and that was it. I almost wish it had been deemed illegal as it would have made my divorce much easier lol.

I only filed my license here in the US in case i loose the original, it is on file somewhere. It wasn't a requirement. We worked with the wedding department at sandals, they guided us through everything. All we had to do was fill out a form, send a copies of our passports along with it to the miami office. We have never been married before so maybe that was why it was so easy? All i can say was i would do it again because it was so easy...

Thank you for your insight! We’re planning our wedding date in the next couple of months in Negril, Jamaica but my only concern is if the date we chose for the ceremony at the Sandals resort, will legally be our marriage date and recognized in the U.S.?
