My FH & I are over the moon excited for our honeymoon! We’re planning to travel to Venice for a week. Initially, I thought I would certainly use a travel agent, however, there’s a small part of me that’s doubting whether or not that’s necessary. Booking flights & hotels can be done fairly simply online. I guess I just am a little nervous since this is, both, my FH & my first trip out of the country. Any advice ?!

Haha you're so welcome! Planning trips is one of my passions. Let me know if you have any other questions! I may be able to answer some, although I was just a poor student trying to see as much of Europe as possible while I was there so I did a lot of hostels and things like that. I'm sure a lot of my experience is transferrable, but I'm also sure you want something a little more upscale than a $10 8-man bedroom in a hostel for your honeymoon hahaha

I have used tour groups when I've travelled in the past, and looking at what I paid for the tour vs ticket prices on things, I'd say we got discounts going through them. Also, they take care of all the admissions ahead of time, so you don't waste time standing in lines. They are able to tell you more about the culture and sights than you would know on your own, and you will get access to things you might never have known about. With most tours you get some free time to explore and eat on your own, and the guide will give really good recommendations for what to do and what to skip. 10/10 would recommend. If you get a good one, that is.

We are booking our honeymoon to Hawaii all on our own through Expedia bundles. Luckily, we are getting married in a slow season for them so flights and everything were great deals. We played with the idea of using a travel agent but I ended up finding deals we were comfortable with and we will book our little excursions on our own too.

We are driving, staying at a bed and breakfast, etc so we did not use a travel agent.

You won't need a travel agent for venice, it's pretty easy to get to and from and the good thing about being in a city so small is you don't have to bother with rental cars or anything because they aren't even allowed!

However, I think a week in Venice is OVERKILL. We only spent 2 nights there and felt a bit bored by the end of the second day. If you're really really invested in going there, then maybe do 3 nights in venice and go spend some time in another city like Florence. It's bigger, has a lot more to do, and absolutely gorgeous!! Venice in october is their rainy season, so it quickly floods and gets stinky (like really stinky like sewage). I recommend a pair of good waterproof boots.

It's not our honeymoon, but I booked an entire trip for my FH and I to Australia in a few weeks. I booked through Air bnb, booked our own flights. We booked the different excursions we'd like to do and what not. I did the same thing in Europe in 2016. I prefer air bnb's since they're usually cheaper. It can be time consuming to plan, meaning taking hours to look over transportation schedules and such. If you don't want to take the time to do that, then get a travel agent.
