Has anyone DIY'ed a welcome sign?

Amanda, on June 20, 2017 at 2:04 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 14

I've seen so many pretty diy wedding sings. I really love the wood and the acrylic. I have a cricut and was thinking about trying to make my own before shelling out the cash. Has anyone done this? What did you use for the back?

I made one almost exactly like that for my sisters wedding, it wasn't too hard, and we used fall colored flowers! It's really beautiful and fun!

I did. I designed it on ppt and then had it printed from zazzle. They have different kinds of paper to print it on. Someone on here did something similar to what I did but put the printed one on canvas. We used a heavy frame since it was an outdoor wedding and wind was a concern.

With a Cricut in hand, I think you could definitely do this!! You can use a print out from the Cricut as a template OR some newer machines will also cut vinyl for you. Then all you have to do is lay it on your background.

As for background material, you could do anything. Stained pallet wood is probably closest to your picture. Just be sure the vinyl you buy (if you go that route) can be attached to stained wood (and make sure the stain is TOTALLY dry.

    Hope that helps!!

I'm making mine. Using an antique mirror that will be propped up a welcome table with the guest book.

@Alecia, that's so awesome! I've never heard of a pallet painting class... where did you take the class?

I made mine as well! We stained wood and then I chalk transferred the words and painted it by hand myself. I didn't want to pay the money for a decal and don't have a Cricut, but after seeing everyone with one I kind of wish I did! No pics of it atm

I stained the wood front and back and then made a stencil with my cricut. I didn't want to splurge on a 12×24 mat so I just made it as big as possible with my 12×12 mat. I also modge podged the stencils before painting to prevent bleeding.

I haven't made mine yet, but I have made a couple of other signs, and I'll be using the same process for my welcome sign. My sign has a barn wood frame and the inner part is a chalk board. I cut my template out in cheap contact paper, placed it on the sign, and then traced around it lightly with a pencil. Then I removed the stencil and colored it in with a paint marker.

I did mine! I did not use a stencil, I just got a slab of wood from lowes and stained it then I used a oil based paint marker that I got from michaels it was actually easier than expected just took a lot of patience. Also, it cost me less than $15 total to make the sign

I'm super lazy and bought that exact one from the Etsy shop. It was only $80 for a 30x20".

By the time we bought wood, glue, stain, paint, and spent who knows how long figuring out how to do it, we would have been in the red.

We used that picture for an inspiration for my cousin's wedding! I used the Oracal Stencil material (its blue). My cousin stained the wood and helped align everything, then we painted it. It was measured and even, the picture was just taken at an angle!
