Has anyone else’s name change taken so long?

I did my name change last October while things were still closed to the public but mine didn't take long at all. I had received my new SSA card before 3 weeks. Have you tried calling your local office and seeing if they are behind in processing still?

It could be related to Covid because mine did not take that long at all.

It took me about 3 weeks. They mailed me my documents back in about a week, and it took two weeks to get the new card. I agree with Yasmine - call them to see if they can provide an update.

Mine did. I did it last fall. Mailed in my documents October 8 or 9, got those back within a couple of weeks, but didn't get my new SS card until November 25. Luckily, I just did a walk in appointment at the DMV the same day my card arrived in the mail, but it definitely took longer than expected. It may be that the office that you sent it to has had more applications to process than others.

I did mine in May. Once they got my documents it took a week to get them back.

Have you tried calling the local office where you sent it? I did mine September 2020 and it only took a couple weeks.

I did DMV first once I received my marriage license. It did not take long to change your name at DMV. Then I did SSN and it took about 3 weeks to the new SSN card with my name change. Philadelphia required me to send in my license/passport with the marriage license in order to get my new SSN. So what I did was that I sent them a copy of my drivers's license with my new name and my passport with the marriage license. You should call your local office to make sure that they have everything they need for you to receive your SSN.

Yeh this stupid government!!! i got married may 8 2021, it took FOREVER to get the marriage certificate in the mail and then FOREVER for the social sec office to do it's job i sent the paperwork in June 9 for ssn and JUST got my updated SSC in the mail yesterday July 1 2021!!!! they told me 7-14 business days which was then june 29 ... i got new address labels from bradford exchange checks in 2-3 days!!!!! and they were ordered after the SSC YOU WOULD THINK WITH HOW SENSITIVE THE SOCIAL CARD IS THAT THEY WOULD OVERNIGHT OR MAKE YOU SIGN FOR IT, BUT NOOOOOOO!!!!

Mine took almost 5 weeks. With COVID happening things have slowed down a lot. I'd call and follow-up with them about your documents and where you are in the process. Let them know of your appointment at the DMV and see if they can expedite the process or let you know if your new SSC has been mailed out.

Nope, sent mine in a week and a half ago and just got my card today. I would call if I were you,

It took almost two months for mine. I called and spoke to someone and after a few weeks it hadn’t even been submitted. He was able to submit while on the phone with me and I got it a couple weeks later. I would give them a call and ask for a status.

I finally got a hold of my local office a few days ago. They said it had been received but they haven't started processing it yet.

Received documents back from SSA office within 2 days of them receiving them with a receipt saying I'll receive the card in 2 weeks. I had a DMV appt..received a temporary DL with new name same day. DL should arrive in 7-10 days they say. We're in Virginia
