Has anyone ever ordered Sam's Club or Blooms by the Box Flowers for their wedding?

Amanda & Michael, on May 14, 2015 at 11:23 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 12

HI guys! I am hoping for some ideas/tips/reviews on ordering flowers in bulk, and making my own simple arrangements. I found out that Sam's Club sells flowers in bulk to make your own arrangements. Has anyone ever used them before? How did that go? What about ablooms by the Box has any one used that either?

Thanks for your help!! Amanda

Yes! For my first wedding, my exMIL actually bought flowers from Costco and did them. Then a while later, I did flowers for a friend's wedding. We ordered those ones from Sams. She wanted red roses and white calla lilies (regular size, aka the large ones). It was easy.

Ive been following diy flower posts for some time. Ive seen a lot of positive posts about sams club and costco. Also I spent a lot of time reading the reviews online. All have been positive for the most part.

Yes, well sort of...my Uncle's wife ordered hers for their wedding just a few years ago. She used them for her centerpieces and bouquets. It was way easier than expected and they turned out beautiful. From what I remember we used a lot of white roses.

I used Sam's for our wedding florals and had a wonderful experience! I had them delivered Wednesday for our Saturday evening wedding, and my mom, sister, aunt, niece and I arranged them Thursday. They arrived really fresh and beautiful, and held up great! We spent about $600 and had more tab enough flowers for the following: 6 bouquets (1 bridal, 4 BM, 1 Jr BM), 10 bouts, 5 corsages, 8 centerpiece arrangements, about 5 large misc arrangements, 10 single stem arrangements, and plenty of flowers/greenery for ceremony/arch decor.

My MOH used Sam's Club for her wedding and the flowers were gorgeous! We plan on ordering some white dendrobium orchids from them.

It depends on what kind of flowers as to whether or not they NEED to be refrigerated, but as a rule of thumb, you should pretty much always refrigerate wedding flowers - both before and after they are assembled. Things that need to be cut and put into water and the fridge right away are gonna be roses, hydrangea, stock, anything else delicate. Carnations, baby's breath, sunflowers, most wildflowers, etc. - you can get away with no refrigeration unless you're in an extreme climate (like a TX summer or a New England winter).

ETA: Recommended time for pickup/delivery is 2-3 days before the wedding. I'm doing mine. My wedding is this Sunday. I'm picking up and assembling Sat morning. It's a private ceremony, so it's small and the reception is what's on June 20 (kind of like an elopement-style thing). Anyway, my point in bringing that up is that if I was having the whole big shebang this weekend, I'd do my bouquets Friday, the corsages and boutonnieres on Saturday, and then the wedding Sunday. My advice - don't put the ribbon around the bouquets until the latest possible moment - generally the morning of the wedding. It just gets weird and soggy with the condensation.

We did baby's breath from Sams and roses from Costco (used both because we couldn't get on time delivery for baby's breath through Costco) and it was perfect. Everything arrived on time and was beautiful. Have the delivery date for a day or two before your even to allow the flowers to open up.

Yep, KTizzle reiterated what I was going to say. The flowers needed a day to rehydrate because of the way that they were packaged and shipped. Don't be alarmed if they arrive and they look like they're dying! So Wednesday morning they arrived and we trimmed the stems and put them in water to rehydrate and liven up for arranging. I'll say that we didn't have access to a refrigerator, so our plan was to put them in a dark bathroom (didn't want them to bloom too quickly) and turn the air conditioning on super low in my parent's 2 bedroom hotel room/condo and hope for the best! We had a semi-destination wedding in Las Vegas, for reference. When we arranged the flowers on Thursday, we arranged them in their vases with water and the flower food that came with the flowers. Be careful you're not overfilling the vases because that would make transportation extra difficult. Then we stuck the vases back in the cool, dark bathroom. ETA: delivery date will depend on which flowers you choose. Some are recommended 2 days before your event, some 3 days. Wednesday delivery just worked best for us. We arranged the bouquets completely and put them in vases with water like the other arrangements. We trimmed the stems on Friday and put the ribbon on them Saturday morning so it wasn't sitting in water. You also want to make sure that there are no leaves below the waterline when you're arranging your flowers because wet leaves will begin to rot.

Mrs. Crowell! Do you mind if I ask what greenery you ordered from sams for your bouquets? I love them and this is what I am aiming for.
