Has anyone ever won a honeymoon at a Bridal Fair? Is it a scam?

MissBethany67, on August 19, 2013 at 5:13 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 29

I attended a bridal fair yesterday and I signed up for all kinds of giveaways. One i remember was that 4 couples would win a honeymoon package.

Well, I just got a call saying that my fiance and I had were one of the four couples! I was so excited that I can't even remember the company's name now!

She said that we won their exclusive cookware set and the honeymoon package.

She said that we'd have to go to the doubletree hotel for a dinner tomorrow night with the other couples and have some chef cook on the cookware for us. Then we would sit and talk about which vacation voucher we would be taking. We will have to pay for our own airfare/transportation.

I asked if we would be purchasing anything at the dinner and she goes, "No! You WON! We aren't selling it to you! It's yours!"

She did say that they would have more of their kitchen appliances available for purchase if we wanted.

She is going to call tomorrow to confirm that we wil be there.

Scam or no?

You probably have to go sit through a time share sales pitch to get the honeymoon. I'd be skeptical.

I wouldn't go, I would just come up with an excuse and say something came up, nothing in the life is free, you will get taxed or have to pay upfront for something.

I've done a couple of those types of things -

Typically you sit there for a presentation and then they give you the voucher in hopes that you buy a timeshare.

Its a marketing ploy - Don't buy anything. Just leave your wallet in the car/at home - that way you have an "excuse" in case it turns out to be a scam.

Don't give any personal information away either (ssn, dob, etc.)

Worth a try if all you have to do is sit there and pretend to be listening.

Actually I wouldn't say it's a scam but it's a lot of work you have to go through. I did get a call about that same thing. I never went. They kept calling me at like 9pm at night.

Honestly I would go at least hear them out. I won a trip to the bahamas that was a time share sales thing. You just go and listen then have to port fees and airfare. Not totally free but close.

We did one of these...you still have to pay the taxes and have your honeymoon within certain dates which are not flexible...the one we wanted ended up being cheaper if everything was booked together rather then the "taxes"

I've gotten two phone calls (both were around bridal shows I went to...both were from the same company) saying i won and to call etc etc... and that they drew the winners at the end of the show and I wasn't there (I stayed for the whole show, they did not draw winners for that prize.... or in the 2nd time I did not sign up for anything to win it)... You can go and just sit through it (since this one you get to go and check it out, mine was over the phone and I just let them call and leave a message - not calling them back).

If it is a timeshare thing, they sometimes have requirements like you have to be over 25 and stuff like that. Or put money down, so definitely be careful. Get the name of the company and research for sure!

This sounds really similar to something I won at a bridal fair. I think it is a big scam cause I wasnt even at that bridal fair I had registered for that fair but ended up not going so I think it is a big scam.

I went to one and signed up to win a honey and when you sign you are suppose to get free engraved toasting flutes but to even get those we both would have had to go to a cookware presentation and other brides said that they had to buy them to get the flutes and never got the honeymoon

Gotta seconde and third that it is a scam. Ten years ago when FH was getting married to his now deceased wife they called and claimed she won but when they refused to buy the cookwear they never received the voucher. Same thing happened to me years ago. Within a few days of our horrible trip to David's bridal we got the same call this time around. So yuppers its a scam! (Wanna explain to me out of the hundreds of brides getting married in this area every year FH and I always seem to win?)

The one I went to was a sales pitch. If we bought their cookware we would receive a 5-7 day cruise. Catch: the cookware was over $1000 minimum. In my opinion, it was a waste of time.

Terrible. Scams. All of these things. You can ALWAYS research a company by googling "Is (insert name of company) a scam".

You can always tell a timeshare booth at a Bridal Show. They have a really flashy booth and they just want your info. There is no travel being discussed.

In Travel we all must have a seller of travel number. If not asked for their CLIA or IATA number to do some research on it.
