Has anyone ever won anything from a bridal show?

OGmelanie, on September 22, 2014 at 10:58 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 23

So I went to a bridal show in toronto on setember 6- I'm sure some of you on here were there too. I got this call today from Kitchen Charm telling me that I won a bridal gift and when I called they were like, "We have this amazing gift for you.. You can have free rings or a 4 day/3 night honeymoon, BUT you have to come to the demonstration cooking class next weekend and stay the whole time to claim your prize." Now you can imagine how excited I was when I heard the first part, and then the "you must sit through 6 hours of us showing off our products and pressuring you into buying expensive things you don't need" came afterwards. DISAPPOINTMENT. Has anyone else gotten a call from them and went? or actually won something that had no strings attached?

We had the same offer but from Royal Prestige. The demo is only about 2 hours. The emailed us but didn't call. FH and I went just to see what it was all about and to get the free gift. We went there wanting the rings since it would save us a lot on our rings. Once we heard the info on the vacation FH decided he wanted that instead since I have never been out of the country. While he was on the phone in the hall the guy revealed that if we ordered one of the packages we would get a ton of offers (both the rings and the trip, an $800 set for free, half off our payments for the first 6 months, etc) so I told FH when he came back in. We were so impressed with the pots and pans that we ordered a set. They are expensive but we think they are worth it so far.

I've won a bunch of mini vacas from attending bridal shows. All of ours was only an hour and a half. You just sit thru the demonstration, and don't buy anything. No matter how good it sounds. Also, they will try to make you feel bad about not buying anything. Just don't buy anything and you make out in the end.

I definitely wouldn't buy anything. I was just curious. I've been to things like this before and they say your getting one thing, but really it's something cheap and not worth your time. Unless you buy something, then you get the real goods.

I went to something like this, it was only 90 minutes though--- i got all the gifts--free rings, vacations--i havent claimed any of it- but i actually bought the products they were selling lol. a 10 piece set of pots... I love them. They are the kind that aren't sold in stores, only by salesmen, thats why they 'give away' stuff as incentives to sit through the demonstration.

They would not stop calling after I filled out the card at the show. The calls were almost harassing - something about we won a honeymoon package but we had to attend a cooking demonstration. They called constantly for 2 weeks.

I won $500 of a DJ packages (the company was the emcees of the bridal show) and we ended up going with them too so its only costing us $700. I also won a bouquet and groom's bout from a local florist but that ended up being a pain in the ass.

I scheduled one appointment with her on a Saturday afternoon and she had to call and cancel it (turned out to be the day before Mothers Day) then went there on the rescheduled day was 10 minutes early and the assistant (an extremely rude old lady) in the shop made a phone call and after told us to have a seat and that the florist asked us to look through some books and mentioned something about her not coming. So my mom and I looked at us and I asked if she was coming. The assistant said no and that she must have forgotten about the appointment, but sees my name right on the calender and that she does that all the time. We got up and I told her that we would be leaving and that its a very poor business practice of her boss. I told her to let her know not to even try bothering to call me about rescheduling because if the woman couldn't be trusted to show up for a consultation then I wouldn't trust her to show up for my wedding.

I wonder ... so far, I received a telephone message from a photographer for a free engagement photo session - I mentioned it to FH and he wasn't interested in being pressured into hiring them for our wedding. I felt the same way. Then I signed up for something from Davids Bridal's website and I received numerous emails from Mary Kay saying I won a free bridal makeup trial session. I didn't respond to any of them. I'm a firm believer that nothing comes for free, unfortunately - there will always have to be something we have to do to get the free prize. Oh well.

We got the same call, except from "bridalregistries"... same thing - vacation or rings, or both if you purchase a package. You are limited in what bands you can select - and the company (JVC..JVR.. something like that) only have plain bands - great if you need something now and plan on getting nicer rings after a few years or whatever - or if you want to have those rings for swimming or whatever.. but from my experience, the rings aren't worth it and the pressure sales are INTENSE. But you do make out in the end at the same time.

I did win liposuction...?!? i didn't know whether to feel offended or laugh my head off (i chose the latter of the two).

EDIT : you can get the rings from that website for next to nothing anyways... granted, they are free if you sit through the demo... but they have sales that are like 60% off a $200 ring anyways.

My friend went to the cooking demo and got the free rings. Apparently they're not really the best quality, but she and her hubby are a very active couple and use the rings as spares for whenever they're playing in tournaments.

I kept on being called by people who said I "won a free makeover" with Mary Kay. Happened almost every month for 6 months. So annoying! By the time I won the 6th one, I texted back "wow, I must be super lucky because that's 6th month in a row that I've won!!". Yay sarcasm.

In all seriousness though, bridal shows are a great way to see what's out there in your area, but I would give you this one piece of advice:

DO NOT register for the bridal shower using contact info you use on a regular basis. I created a separate wedding gmail account, and in hindsight I should have created a google voice account too. Vendors do sometimes send you useful info (that's how we found our photographer), but the amount of spam/telemarketing is really annoying.

I won a "Premiere Package" from a local photographer and I was so freaking excited I almost pee'd....... until I decided to look up reviews just to be safe. Well the reviews were full of negative comments about the photographer and how they, too, won a package from them. So, I never responded to my prize. It really sucked because I was so excited but I am glad I did my homework!

I won a discount on a reception venue that was over an hour away from where I live, so totally worthless to me. I also "won" all those stupid robo calls from the Royal Prestige company. GO. AWAY.

I won 50% off a photobooth, so we booked it! The discount made it so reasonable that we just couldn't say no.... and we wanted one anyway Smiley smile

I won one of those free vacations with the cookware demonstration too... I was excited at the idea but then did some research and decided to bail on it. From what I could find, it looks like you can in fact get your free vacation (or free rings, as others have mentioned) but you need to sit through the presentation, get beyond pressured to buy something, and then jump through hoops (and pay some fees) to claim your vacation. Has anyone actually been on the vacation that they won through this kind of thing? I'd be interested to hear how it was.

I also won $339 in credit towards a gym membership, so I was able to sign up for 2 years at about 50% off. So far that's the best thing I've been able to win Smiley smile

Sadly, that clown and circus game is what bridal shows have been reduced to....I've done a few, and kept prizes minimal, BUT there were no strings attached! They are costly and time consuming for us to do, so naturally it's disappointing when people just want free shit from us. But that's still no reason to attach strings.

I have won: my bachelorette party, a one night suite stay at the Marriott plus brunch, did a cake dive and won $500 (recommend that just for a laugh), $50 Visa card, some personal trainer classes( too far for me to go to), and a few random things from Mary Kay, etc. My fellow bride who goes with me has won: her FH ring, $1000 in cash, and some Tupperware.
