Has anyone ever done a wedding at night? i love the idea of a candle lit wedding under the stars but when and what would you do for a reception, menu, and all those other little details?

Have the reception the next day? maybe have a brunch instead of a full blown reception?

Depending on the time of year you could easily start at 6pm, mostly winter though I'd think, but it depends on where you live.

You could do a sunset ceremony followed by a cocktail & hor d'orves reception, use hot and cold finger foods. Or you could do a later full reception, just keep in mind if your ceremony & cocktail hour are near supper time, people will be hungry so you might want to provide appitizers.

Do you have any colors or a theme picked out? That way we can help with those other decor details..

You could do black linens, with accents of wine and gold, Like gold napkin rings with black napkins and a wine table runner, lots of candles to break up the black linens, you could even do a candle centerpiece on a mirror to create more light. Or you could alternate between black linens or gold or wine if you wanted to break it up a little, but all black linens are good also. What else..hmm....

A night wedding will be beautiful, just make sure that your photographer is REALLY good. Low light is harder to shoot in. If your photos are important to you make sure that you ask all of the right questions.

    1. Ask to see photos done in low light

    2. Ask what equipment they use or plan to use.

    3. Make sure that your officiant allows flash (some don't, they don't want to be blinded, compromise the sanctity of the ceremony...)

    Good luck and CONGRATS!!

Glass photo coasters positioned like a frame with the placecards inside looks absolutly beautiful on a softly lit table. They reflect the light and really look nice!!!

Lanterns hung from trees, stands or even on the ground make a nice softly lit path which would look really romantic and elegant.

We did a night wedding inside this little castle it was beautiful. We had candle centrepieces and floating candles in small bowls lined the aisle.

There's a place that does fullmoon midnight weddings. I seem to recall that the reception is first, at about 7 or 8, then the ceremony is at midnight

We have a paddlewheeler that will do the moonlight wedding on the water. They even do the dinner and the captain can marry you if you want. Bit more spendy then my budget but its what I really want. I seen pictures with lumineries lining the aisle. I would do those with the battery operated candles to lessen the chance of a dress catching fire.

My ex and I had our wedding at 7PM on a Saturday night, in late November.

We did it to avoid his family bringing their children, as I did NOT want to have any kids at my wedding.

Our guests were very happy with the event, as were we.

Now, fast forward to my daughters wedding...it will be at 4:30 PM.....she does not want children (under 10) to be there. We have two issues...one of those a BM. So, some of my daughters friends will be chatting with the two parents to convince them to find a sitter.

I just did a nighttime wedding this weekend, it went perfectly. The only side effect it went til 1:30 AM but they were a young couple so it worked.

There's plenty you can do, we did sparklers for when they left, etc.
