Has anyone rented/purchased chandeliers for their wedding?

Kelsey, on October 31, 2018 at 2:48 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 20

I have been trying to find inexpensive chandeliers to hang from our venue and am having the worst luck finding them!

We rented chandeliers. This is a poor quality screenshot I took from an instagram video from one of my vendors. What do you consider inexpensive? I believe we paid around a thousand each.

Oh my goodness! Those are beautiful! But a thousand is out of our budget. We are hoping to get two for under 500.

Thank you! I don’t know if that budget is feasible. Are you set on chandeliers or would you be okay doing string lighting? I also live in a very high cost of living area so I’m not sure what it’s like in your town. Have you called different event rental companies?

Our venue already has market lighting! So if we can't have them I won't be heart broken but I would like them! I haven't spoken to any rental companies yet, just been trying to find them on wedding recycle since they don't need to be huge.

I suggest contacting event rental companies or lighting companies. But be prepared for the price. These are usually expensive to rent as Kelly shared. I would be very surprised if you can find 2 for less than $500.

Gotcha! Does your venue allow you to bring in and install a chandelier on your own? It can’t hurt to reach out to event rental companies and see what they offer.

A cheaper alternative, a friend of mine really wanted a chandelier to hang over the sweetheart table at her wedding. She couldn't afford to rent one and one day she was walking through IKEA and found one she loved for like $50! Best part? She hung it in her dining room after the wedding. I feel like you can find plenty of beautiful chandeliers from Wayfair and other places and you could definitely get 2 for under $500 and then you'd own them to do whatever with. If you have someone that could hang them I think this would be a good option! Just ask the venue if you could bring in your own. We are making our own greenery chandelier to hang and my dad is going to put it up with all of the lights the day before the wedding!

Be aware that if venue approves the added ceiling lighting, and does not have sockets in a beam or ceiling, or hanging braced hook, they may charge $50 to $ 100 to pay an electrician fee for running an extension line that meets fire codes, for a stretch to a ceiling beam. For each chandelier.

That is good to know! I know my venue has had them in the past but I didn't ask if it costs extra to have them installed.

Yes! The venue is a very laid back space, and said we can pretty much bring in whatever we want!

I don't think $250 a chandelier is feasible. All the quotes I've gotten are at least $800 for one with delivery and set up.

My D looked into draping and a chandelier for her reception venue. The cost was $2500 for both, with $500 attributed to the chandelier. What drives up the cost is the delivery and installation. The venue requires any vendor doing work on sight to be licensed and insured, so it's not like we could just install it ourselves. She opted for the draping and café lights instead. I do see that the place we are renting some of our other décor from has chandeliers for $100, but again once you have it delivered and installed the price goes way up. Hope you find what you're looking for!

Venues that regularly do it often have an outlet on numerous beams, and charge a nominal handyman fee if any to move a bracket along the beam over the right area. But venue may specify UL listed cord and cord length, which you need to know to buy or rent a lighting fixture. As well as maximum wattage.

I don't think $500 will be doable for two. We had 3 over our head table/ceremony and they were $500 each installed. (hard to see them in the picture when they are lit up).

Have you thought about what florists say? Often times they can rent out many items to use and return or might be included in a price for flowers.

Hi Kelsey! I love the look of chandeliers and that's a great idea to add them into your wedding decor! Smiley heart You mentioned that venue has had them in the past, so starting by talking to your venue managers about your interest in hanging chandeliers for your big day! You could even ask where prior couples found theirs and about any other details regarding finding and hanging them. Smiley heart
