Has anyone served M&M's or small candies for party favors?

Warren, on June 23, 2011 at 2:13 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 1 14

We are thinking about doing the customized M&M's as party favors but I have no idea how many to order. We want to do small circular tins that are 2" diameter and 0.75" deep. I am thinking they will hold about 10-15 plain M&Ms. So with 200 guests we need about 2000 to 3000 M&M pieces. Unfortunately, on the website they sell the M&Ms by the pound and give you no indication of how many pieces per pound. Any help figuring this out would be appreciated.

If this helps I did the personalized M&M's for my wedding. I ordered 10 pounds and it was just enough for 75 favors.

So by my calculations you would need to order 30 pounds.

Those M&Ms are cute, but pricey. If you have 200 guests that can quickly add up. Are you set on getting the personalized ones? Maybe you could just order your wedding colors instead? Just a thought, because I considered them too. Smiley smile

Yes they are pricey. I paid around $210 or so and that was with a 10% discount and free shippings. So yeah not cheap at all. But they look so pretty!

I ordered 1 lbs for my wedding favors and I made 105 favors with extras left over. Just figure out how many ounces are in each filled tin and multiply that by the number of guests and divided by 16 (1lb)

Well I got smart and called the customer service number from the website which they try to hide. They said a 5lbs bag is 2500 pieces. So if I do small containers I should be fine with 10 lbs.

    Thanks for the advice.

Elizabeth, how big were your favors?

I am using the "pieces" candies that are navy blue and white that look like m&m's but taste like york peppermint patties. The colors will match our theme and the price is even better! A bag at walmart is 2.50

I used bulkecandy.com for my M&Ms. I ordered navy blue and dark pink. It was too expensive to do the personalization, so we just went with the colors. I ordered a ten pound bag of each color. Hopefully, they will be on my doorstep tomorrow.

I also used the code TAKE5NOW to save 5%. Wasn't much of a savings but every little bit counts.

Yup 5 lbs should be plenty for the pieces you want per person.
