Has anyone submitted their photos (wedding or engagement) to any websites? If so, were you featured?

Amanda, on June 24, 2017 at 8:49 AM Posted in Community Conversations 1 34

For example, Style Me Pretty, Martha Stewart Weddings, Green Wedding Shoes, 100 Layer Cake, Borrowed and Blue, The Knot, etc. or wedding magazines.

What's the process like? Do you need your photographer's permission? If your photos were featured, was it exciting to see them posted? What made you decide to submit your photos?

ETA: wedding magazines to the list above as @Jessica mentioned them and I forgot lol

I was looking at Pretty Pear Bride, which is a magazine and website dedicated to plus sized brides and they listed their requirements for submissions on their site, so I imagine all of the others do as well. I might submit my Icelandic engagement photos to them because I love that they're out there championing for plus sized brides and I wanted to show that plus sized brides can also be adventurous brides Smiley smile

    ETA: forgot my explanation

I didn't but my photographer did. He submitted one photo to Huffpost Weddings and it was featured. Dying because we haven't gotten our photos back yet.

It was absolutely exciting. We were on our HM when H decided to check his FB notifications and he told me. I was in the pool and think I did a backflip.

Also, some other photos I tagged a few IG pages with the one sneak peek I had, and they reposted them.

@Vee, I was thinking about submitting there too, for the same reasons you support PPB! As a plus size bride, it was more difficult to find photos (both wedding and engagement photos) featuring larger brides and that was one site that really helped me feel more confident! I remember your photos and they were AMAZING, so I would be shocked if they don't feature yours Smiley smile

@GymRat, that's awesome! I would be so excited too! I tagged one of my photos on Instagram and got reposted as well. I forgot about that!

We've had couples on pretty much every blog (Including www.onabicyclebuiltfortwo, which features couples of gay women) and every major mag.

I would definitely talk to your photographer about this and work on it yourself! I love seeing a variety of sizes, shapes and colors and I would definitely do it! Wedding gorgeousness isn't defined by a narrow set of standards.

@OP I feel you girl! I hope you do submit your wedding to PPB! I saw and remember your BAM clearly and you are a vision and your wedding looked so beautiful! And thank you Smiley smile our engagements were probably the most "extra" thing we have ever done, but I don't care, so worth it and plus the memories! Keep us updated on your submissions and if any of your submissions get published!

@Celia, that's awesome! Thank you for the encouragement. And I totally agree with you that weddings shouldn't be defined by a narrow set of standards. My husband and I are also interracial and I love seeing couples like us too Smiley smile

@Vee, aww thank you! You are too sweet! I will absolutely post on here if I submit/get featured, I have only seen one person post their featured posts before but I hope to see more of them Smiley smile Your engagements were most definitely epic! DH and I hope to make it to Iceland one day, and your photos made me want to even more, so not only were they epic and flawless but also inspiring. I think you should definitely submit those photos!

@kate Yay! PPB is awesome Smiley smile! So many gorgeous, real weddings! Thank you always for your kind words and enthusiasm! Seriously! FH and I were going to try to go on an off roading adventure today, but the trails are too muddy, so it might be a good day to hunker down and finally work on a submission! Hopefully we will be seeing Amanda and her DH and me and my FH out there in blog land!

I would get on wordpress or maybe blogger and write your story out first and then add photos to support the story you are sharing in the blog. When emailing potential website just introduce yourself and put a feeler out and share the blog link.

Typically the chain of command for getting published is the photographer hosting the gallery on Two Bright Lights (submission engine) , and they submit the wedding to the publications they think your event is compatible with. For example, if your dream is to be featured on Style Me Pretty, you'll need a strong fashionista photographer. My work won't be seen there, but Offbeat Bride and others, yes. I've had to learn my best pairings. The photographer lists the other vendors involved and lists the couples's email contact info. This way, if the editor wants to know any first hand details about how you met, your relationship, your overall experience with the planning process, and even vendor experiences....they've got a first hand account.

Borrowed and Blue is another good one, you can use #everywedding hashtags and do the same for other publications as featured, when you share it. There are a few who might accept submissions from the couple directly. But having the best content for publication hosted on TBL is the most efficient way for them to have the content and info at their fingertips, which is why the photographer usually does this. TBL is for photographers. Great tool....but the trick is each of us finding the right combinations....as well as local / regional publication requests.

No worries, let me know if you have any other questions about it we didn't cover. I'm excited to submit my latest historic movie theatre wedding to Offbeat Bride...they'll have a field day with that one. Also, some blogs are exclusive. I'd only do that for Offbeat or another major one. Most are non exclusive. But the photographer should know that stuff Smiley laugh

I actually hate the direction so many are going....all they care about are stylistic details...never mind the couple in love and their families....who would want that? So it's refreshing some are still focusing on what matters most. OBB is creative, I subscribe myself! They're exclusive and far behind, but worth waiting for. It's fun to see love at work as well as creativity.

I hate that most of them don't even bother to give the officiant credit. The cufflinks? Yep. The officiant? Sometimes.

Cleveland Magazine once a year does a wedding & Bridal issue and the one thing I noticed is that in the featured weddings at the end of the story all vendors were mentioned. It is a great way to give credit to where credit is due.

@CeliaMilton it is rare that they mention who altered the dress too but the salon selling the gown gets credit.
