Has anyone successfully returned an altered dress at David's Bridal?

flora, on April 5, 2017 at 2:33 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

Hi ladies, checking in here to see if anyone has been able to return an altered dress at David's Bridal?

My situation is - I've been having issues with the alterations department. I am between sizes, so I was instructed to buy a larger size. When it came in, they pinned the sides to a comfortable fit, however when I came in to pick up the dress, it was too tight.

I encountered everything bad I've read about them - they asked me if I gained weight. In my bust? Unfortunately, not possible for me. They made me feel like it was my fault, and even better, they charged me an additional $50 to make it fit.

I talked to the store manager, had the additional fee refunded, but on my next visit, the top was still too tight.

Today, I'll pick up my dress, but I am only 1 month away from my wedding date. If it is still too tight, I'll ask for my money back and buy somewhere else.

They insist all sales are final, but I'm wondering if anyone has gotten a full refund from David's Bridal?

I actually have a backup dress I bought on Ebay that fits me perfectly! I could use the refund to pay for other wedding stuff.

They won't take it back once it has been altered. I tried.

Yeah I can't imagine any place taking back an altered item. Not even just wedding dresses, but regular clothes too!

I'm sorry this happened OP Smiley sad

I know DB is pretty picky when it comes to returning dresses. I just looked up their return policy online. You may still try and talk to them though and explain your situation.

You could try selling it at a consignment store.

You should be able to make them fix it until its correct but your probably not going to get a refund at this point.

What the fuck, why are they making it sound like you gained weight? They screwed up and they need to pay for it.

    I'd call corporate

Once it has been altered it is useless to them, it can't be resold

If they are able to make it fit without any extra charges then what's the problem? A month is plenty of time to have it fixed in.

I'm just not confident they will fix it - I didn't go into the details, but in the 3 times I've been to alterations so far, I have always been helped by someone different, and no one has been polite or wanted to help. I'm worried they'll take up all the rest of my time between now and the wedding and I still won't have a dress that fits.

Yes, I did get a refund! Do not waste your time with any sales associates or assistant managers - speak directly to the store manager, that is my advice. I wasted so much time debating what was going on with other people in the store who were not able to help me, but the store manager was kind and gracious, and gave me my money back. I am so grateful, I almost spent so much money on a dress that didn't fit me. Good luck!

Great!! A bit of hope for me then... you got a full refund alteration + original price of the dress?
I have an appointment tomorrow. Hope I’ll get what I am hoping for! I don’t trust them anymore, I am not looking for any other alteration!!
I won’t leave the store with that dress, a dress I was in love with... just want my money back and a real suiting decent perfect to me wedding dress!
    Cheers xoxo

Yes, it was a full refund for the price of the dress and the alterations. I believe it was up to $330 for alterations, because every time I went in, alterations wouldn't do anything without charging me.

This is nuts - I am in the EXACT situation right now!!! David's Bridal has been an actual nightmare. Same problem over here with my alterations. They ordered a dress size bigger than I asked for, then took it in so much that I am positive it's smaller than if they had just ordered my correct size. I have a short engagement, and I feel they took advantage of my lack of time to rip me off. They charged me $700 for the CRAPPIEST alterations - they didn't hem it properly and it was still too long, they took it in way too much up top but it's somehow weirdly giant in the front?! The cups they sewed in so theoretically I wouldn't have to wear a bra were crooked, ugly, and SHOWING!! (And then they just told me "oh just get some boob tape." Thanks. Helpful.) Like they sewed it so badly you could see the beige on top of the bodice, and the bustle button looks like it came from the dollar store. I made them fix things and am supposed to pick it up this weekend, but I have zero confidence and I literally bought a different dress from Azazie yesterday that I'm obsessed with and now need to return this horrible nightmare dress - I'm soooo encouraged to hear there has been some success with this. Thank you for the tip about going straight to the manager. My wedding is in 6 weeks and honestly this whole experience with David's Bridal has been devastating.

    Hello,

How did this work out for you. After a nightmare back and forth game they have made my dress unwearable 6 days before my wedding.

It is a bit complex with the recent bankruptcy. But since the dress and alterations are all through David's, the alterations is their mess up so they would still be responsible as a company.
