Has anyone tried the Whole 30 program?

Nicole, on January 28, 2015 at 2:42 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 11

I am down to 100 days before my wedding. I had hoped I would have lost a little more weight by this point. I have been eating mostly healthy, and going to the gym a couple times a week. I am going to start to be more strict with myself and eliminate more from my diet. I have read most of the book It Starts With Food, which explains the Whole 30 program. Has anyone else tried this program? Is it too unrealistic? What were your results?

My intentions are two fold. I really would like to be more conscious of what we are putting in our bodies and get healthier. But I would also just like to feel more comfortable with myself. My groom to be has gastric problems and I was very intrigued to read how much this program would help. I am concerned about my will power though. I think I will start with your suggestion as a stepping stone, assess how well we do, then try the whole program. Thank you.

I haven't tried the Whole 30 program but, I was on a fast for 21 days with my church and lost 5lbs. No sweets, No bread and No Meat. It's called the Daniel Fast. I did eat baked chicken or salmon for dinner with some steam broccoli or salad for the first 14 days for dinner and then no Meat for the last 7 days. For breakfast I had 1 or 2 eggs and applesauce unsweetened with water or a cup of naked juice. For lunch I had a salad with balsamic dressing and a cup of Naked Juice. I made sure to drink plenty of water through out the day. This was with no exercise. I am still doing it and adding in exercise now.

    Good Luck to you Nicole!!

I'm on day 28 right now! I think I might have lost a little, but more than anything I just feel a tad more comfortable in my clothes and my energy levels are consistent. My fiancé is doing it too and he, too, agrees that the program is great for retraining you to like healthier foods. It's not a crash diet, but I do think the benefits are worth it in the long run... even though I think the no-legumes thing is bull.

Thank you all for the input. I have two weaknesses sweets and carbs, the worst two things! I would just like to loose a couple of pounds feel better, less lethargic, and tone up. As for the no legumes ting, I was surprised. But when I read how much inflammation throughout the body can be reduced by eliminating them I was even more surprised.

How about your gym routines any suggestions, I feel like I don't do enough!

I have done two whole 30's as well. It's really hard- and takes a LOT of meal preparation. There is no such thing as "throwing something together." Since you are not allowed any processed foods- making everything from scratch really gets time consuming. Lack of planning is really the only thing that made it hard to stick to it.

It is a good jump start into dieting OR on the flip side, it can be things that totally throw you off. "I made it 30 whole days of not eating crap! Let me stuff my face with anything I can get my hands on!"

I did lose 17 pounds my first go round... but the second, not so much.

Just remember.. if you make the decision to do a whole 30- and you don't stick to it- you are letting yourself down. It's 30 days. and by week two you will start to feel AMAZING! I promise!

I am getting ready to start a clean diet and have started my exercise regime. My friend is on week 3 of The Whole 30 and said she lost 5 pounds the first week. I don't know about the second. I have an other friend that dropped like 10 pounds the first time she did it.

It is very strict. I would find some ways to make a bit easier on yourself if you are worried avout sticking to it. Theres a post on Pintrist called THe Lazy Girl's Guide to the Whole 30 (or something like that).

I think one reason a lot of people don't lose more weight is they over-indulge in meats - like bacon - or they aren't taking in the fats that they need to. Pay close attention to the portion sizing thats recommended, it really isn't that hard. Just don't run to the store and buy a TON of stuff, half of it will go bad. Try a few simple meal plans the first week and then maybe start adding from there. I'm not saying cheat by any means, just make it as easy on yourself as you can the first few days at least.

I have done a whole 30. I lost 16 lbs on it. I understand fully that the whole 30 is not for just losing weight but if your looking to lose a few extra lbs it definitely is helpful. Beware its very very tough!! Good luck

I am doing the Whole 30. I am a carb-a-holic! I could live off of bread, wine and cheese Smiley smile I agree with the previous comments that some people overindulge in some things (like meat, etc) and it kind of defeats the purpose of a balanced healthy life style change. Everything should be in moderation. When I did the Whole 30 I had already been doing 21 Day Fix for a few months so it made it easier to transition to. Last month, I was at a point where I lost 40 pounds since July . I was happy with my weight on the scale but really wanted to start seeing more progress (and maybe start seeing some abs). I think the transition for me has been easier for me than most because it was more of a baby step (small changes). I still follow the same portion control I was following with the 21 Day Fix but have eliminated some of the foods I was able to eat on that. I don't know if I could have done the Whole 30 successfully a few months ago because it would have been a big change. Small changes make a big difference and are more sustainable for me.

I do the 24 day challenge. But it's a lifestyle change. You eat the right size portions and you eat 5 times a day and take lots of vitamins. I did that and exercised and lost 15lbs and 11 inches off body. After I kept up with the 5 meals a day and small portions and was able to keep the lbs off.

I am a fitness freak. I understand working out and dieting very well. Suggestion: go for a walk/jog 5 times a week. With already healthy eating habits.. This will make a difference. And each time you go out.. Go a little bit further than the last time. Smiley smile

    Hope this helps.
