Has anyone used flowers from Dollar Tree?

Mrs. DooPwee, on February 3, 2013 at 9:05 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 15

Any success? I was there today and am not a huge fan of their flowers. They look ultra cheap. But I wanted to practice with my centerpieces so I bought a couple and put them in the wine bottle I had at home. It actually looked pretty nice. Cost like 5 dollars.

Has anyone had luck with DT flowers? I came across a post on the knot (google) of several people who made it work.

Yeah...I'm honestly not a fan of them either. I was going to use silk flowers from AC Moore or Michaels or something.

Funny thing is I had purple pussywillows in the bunch and the tips that stick out were sharp and stuck me (had a dot of blood) lol. Had to tell the cashier.

But for now, just using them for practice. Smiley smile

    Thanks for the advice!

It depends on the flower. I used some sunflowers, cat tails, grass looking stuff, and glass globes that I bought from dollar tree combined them with some sand (I had left over from my wedding centerpieces), as filler in the globes for tables at a memorial dinner they looked very pretty and people thought I had spent a lot of money. I made 20 centerpieces and spent $40 making them $2 each. If YOU liked your sample and can get enough of the supplies to make as many as you need, then do it.

I think a lot of their flowers do look cheap, plastic looking....but I did dig through the display of them and found some that were actually pretty nice looking and used them for our outdoor arrangements that will be on the gazebo and with the tulle bow's that will be on the railings. where these will be used are in locations that no one will really be up close to them, and it will be obvious they are artificial, but I think they will be fine for that.....don't know that I would use them for centerpieces for our reception...but..

I made a little arrangement in a tea tin for my home office. Looks cute. It's the "greenery"/stems etc that looks extra cheap to me.

I would go to Michaels or another craft store. Their flowers go on sale and you also get coupons. DT is always $1 per bunch, and the bunch is pretty small. Michaels has more variety so you can mix and match.

Good to know it worked for some of you.

Still playing around with the concept. I'll post a picture of what I have so far.

I'm probably going to play w flowers from Micheals and A.C. Moore as well.

    Thanks again ladies Smiley smile

I used some for the pomanders I made for the reception. I purchased them on site though, I didn't order them online. That way I could actually touch what I was paying for. They turned out very nice and look just as real as the more expensive ones I got from Hobby Lobby. I did notice though that they were a lot "flimsier" than the other flowers I got from Hobby Lobby - but that's to be expected for the price.

I did use some of the flowers - flowers NOT the greens - and mixed them in with ones I bought from Michaels & Joanne's. The fact some had a thinner stem worked out well for me.

If you want cheap flowers that don't look too bad I suggest efavormart. I ordered them for some pew decorations for a wedding.

I used the Dollar Tree grapes though - I LOVED them! Especially the red ones - very realistic!

Please do not use these. Flowers from this store look exactly as they should, having been purchased at a dollar store. I have nothing against permanent botanicals, but Dollar Tree flowers just do not emulate any form of quality that you will want at your wedding. There are fairly inexpensive permanent botanicals on many websites that are more realistic and won't look so cheap.

Ive decided to use the DT flowers in my upside down martini glass centerpiece piece. Ill judt pop off the flowers. Went to a store in my area called Garden Ridge and they have tons of flowers. My mom and I found them to be much better quality (still a little thin) but much better. Also found additional vases.

I just need to put it all together now.

Thanks a bunch again ladies Smiley smile

@MJ I'll check out efavormart. I'm sure I may find something I'll need.

    @SpicyDeene your centerpiece looked great!

KP, I was going to say, that putting flowers, silk or real into a small opening, like a wine bottle has it's challenges, if you need the stem look and a full bouquet head, but as for DT flowers they can work, and I use them as complete works or as fillers. It's the fact that you can't get much of a foam base into that opening so when you insert your flower, short stems, to high. it becomes a balance issue, as using foam always help the flowers to "open up," even silks. You say you are thinking of getting a vase, well this would work so much better, vase denotes a larger opening; glass beads, nuts, berries, petals, leaves the options are endless, and they can be inserted into the bottom of the vase or bottle, anyways, I'll upload a few pics...Good Luck..x
