Has Anyone used the Blue Hydrangeas from Costco?

GoodMOB, on December 8, 2017 at 1:07 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 5

Really wondering about the blue color, and is there a way to figure out ahead exactly what shade of blue it is, for matching things?

I'm planning to get them but haven't ordered yet. My guess is that they are like every other blue hydrangea. Usually lighter on the inside and slightly darker on the outside of each tiny flower in the head.

You could place a sample order to see what color they come in and donate them to a local nursing home. You may even be able to go into the floral case at Costco and see if they have any bouqets with hydrangeas in them.

Contact your local Costco, call the membership desk. They should be able to put you in contact with the person who delivers and stocks their flower case. Most times they are very helpful. You can ask them for a sample (you will need to buy them) so you will have an idea for color. I worked at Costco for almost 20 years, the hydrangeas were a like cobalt blue where we are in NJ.

Hydrangeas are tricky to match because their color is actually based off of the Ph of the soil.

All helpful suggestions, thanks! And MrsMtobe, you are so right. In British Columbia, where we have relatives, they put an iron spike in the soil to turn them blue.

I like the idea of getting some type of sample, though, to know if we are even on the right track at all.

Hydrangeas are tough; their colors vary with the soil, the conditioning is paramount. Of course, they can always be dyed.....
