Hashtags Help!

Orianna, on November 2, 2022 at 4:47 PM Posted in Community Conversations 1 12
I need some help with a hashtag. I don’t particularly want one, but my fiancé really does, so I’m compromising and having one. The problem is I hate all the ones a hashtag generator comes up with. And you all are FANTASTIC at it! Thanks all!!

Bride: Orianna (I go by Ori, pronounced Or-ee)Groom: GlenMarried last name: Aldridge

    Hi Lisa !

You’re so creative with the hashtags! What are they used for in a wedding? And I would like to create a fun one too

Hey Laura! The purpose of the hashtag is so that if guests post their own photos from the wedding on social media, they can include the couple's chosen hashtag, and the couple can then search for the hashtag on social media. This helps them see all of their guests' photos in one place (as long as the guest put the hashtag in their post). Some people also choose a hashtag just for fun. To create a hashtag, check out the hashtag generator here on WeddingWire: https://www.weddingwire.com/wedding-hashtag-generator or, you can also put a post on these forums with the name(s) that you'd like to include in the hashtag, along with any themes or shared interests between your and your future spouse (such as baseball or Star Wars or even pizza), and forum members will reply with suggestions that they think of!

Sounds fun and makes a lot of sense!
Where would you put the hashtag so your guests see it ? At the wedding reception or the wedding website?
I’m not taking my FH last name because I like mine. But not sure if he’s gonna add mine as a second last name. His name is Ryan and I’m Laura. His middle name is Amaury. So I was thinking something like #RyanamaLaura which would be in Spanish because I am Latina. What do you think?

If you have a welcome sign, you could put it on there! You could also buy a wooden sign from Etsy or somewhere that has your hashtag on it to display near your guest book. Definitely also put it on your wedding website! If you post anything related to your wedding on social media, you could also include it on your posts. Here are some example photos of ways to display wedding hashtags:

    Hashtags Help! 3
    Hashtags Help! 4

I like the hashtag idea you came up with for your wedding!! It incorporates both of your names, and includes your culture, which makes it more personal and less likely that someone else has used it.

Thank you so much Lisa !
I’m going to start working on getting/ renting the wooden sign.
I was also thinking to kindly ask my guests to put their phones away during the ceremony. Is that too much to ask ?

I don't think it's too much to ask them to keep their phones on silent/away during the ceremony! Many people do an unplugged ceremony, and often, the photographer prefers it, just in case people get their phones in the way of the photographer. You could have a sign announcing the unplugged ceremony at the entrance to the ceremony, and/or you could have your officiant make an announcement before the start of the ceremony, asking guests to keep their phones on silent and put away until the reception.
