Have a Sunday wedding, or more expensive Saturday one 1.5 hours away?

Olivia, on October 28, 2023 at 11:41 AM Posted in Planning 0 5

My FH and I are planning to get married next year, but are having trouble finding a venue in our area. We found a local venue we love (at dirt cheap price!), however, the only available days they have are on Sundays, which is always not ideal.

We have also found one other venue that has everything we want and more, lands on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend, but is 1-1.5 hours away and includes a price that is $3k higher. Although it is in our budget (though barely!), we are concerned for those who don't want to make the travel, or may be too old too.

Both venues have music cut off times at 10:30 pm.

My question is, which would you choose?

I would talk to your VIP guests to find out what works best for them. Some people have outstanding plans for Labor Day so that could be an issue. Others might not bring willing to travel so that's another potential issue. And others might not want to take off Monday to attend a Sunday wedding. It all really depends on your guests.

No contest. I'd choose the one that's more convenient to family and other guests, less expensive, and not on Labor Day weekend.

We are having a small Sunday wedding around 2pm. This is perfect for us because it allows everyone to get out of church and head to the wedding. It also works for us because we're not night people so the wedding should be over by 5:00 p.m.

If you think the hour travel would be too difficult for your guests, then I would choose Sunday. Brunch weddings have become more popular lately; that may be a great option for you! Brunch catering tends to be less expensive (yay savings!), and you could be done by early afternoon. That means your guests wouldn’t need to worry about taking off work on Monday (or guests leaving your reception super early) and you would be done in time to do a pub crawl, etc. with younger guests if you wanted to keep the celebration going!
