Have any of you missed periods due to stress?

*~WiiFeY~*, on April 7, 2011 at 10:32 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 21

I haven't had a period in 3 months. I'm not pregnant, I've taken 2 tests, so I'm not really even worried about that. I know its definitely possible for stress to make you miss periods, but its NEVER happened to me. And I don't really FEEL that stressed at the moment.. Just overloaded with wedding stuff, but it could definitely be worse. Part of me thinks I should go to the doctor, but part of me feels like he's just going to tell me its stress and send me home.

Has this happened to any of you? I don't really MIND it, just want a reason. And as long as I know I'm not pregnant, I'm good! lol

Sure ... it has happened to me ... but I was fortunate at the time, because I was in college and had way to much going on, and at the time I wasn't sexually active ... I'm not a scientist or a doctor so I can't tell you why we can miss periods ... but something with the stress ...

Only once and it was last September when I was hospitalized. Other than that, never. You can practically set your watch by me.

This hasn't happened to me at all, so I really can't say. But I'd go to the doctor just incase, or at least like call and ask..Did everything seem okay with your periods before you stopped having them?

I know its definitely possible, I guess I'm just wondering if its okay. I hate going to the doctor for silly things, so I'd hate to go, knowing its probably stress, just to have him tell me that. As long as its okay that I'm missing them and wont cause any problems, I'm fine with that.

Ab- Everything seemed fine, except for the last period was more spotting. Just for two days. I barely even needed a panty liner. Ever since then I haven't had one at all. I haven't "felt" pregnant, no signs, no weight gain, yadda yadda yadda.. But I took a test last month and this month anyway and they both say not pregnant.

This happened to me! I am currently working, planning a wedding, and attending nursing school so I understand the stress thing! lol I had gotten mine in early January skipped the whole month of February, took 2 pregnancy tests; both negative; and got a confirmed negative by the DR. Then I finally got it at the end of March. The Dr. told me that is was most likely due to stress because that had never happened before.

Yeah this has NEVER happened to me either! I have some really light one-day periods, but they're heavy enough to KNOW that its a period lol I haven't had that at all.

I miss them all the time. Well normally I only got periods four times a year. I used to call it one for every season. Though there were years I never had one due to overwhelming stress, whether it was school, bf or gf, or parents. As long as you aren't pregnant, you should be fine. Smiley smile

Heck yeah! Whenever I get near finals and it is a really tough semester, I can almost count on a skipped cycle. Annoying isn't it :/

Let me tell you a very scary situation that happened to me in January.... I didn't get my period..I was 8 days late..and I was thinking "oh sh*t, I am pregnant!"...I took a pregnancy test "clear blue" to be exact..and it said I was PREGNANT! i was freaking out.. literally almost passed out and everything..It was digital so words read out pregnant....I imediately called my gynocologist and had blood work done the next morning to confirm it..... The next day after I got blood work done, that evening I started my period and blood test came back negative....pheww that was such a scary experience! Yes, it is possible to be late with stress..but if i were you Id make sure its not cyst in the way or anything else going on...I think if i were you, id go to make sure everything is okay....

I am not saying you have this...but one thing the doctor mentioned with late periods could also be this "polycystic ovary syndrome" so I would just go to make sure everything is okay...

First time I left county for 6 months I didn't have periods all this time. I wasn't sexually active so pregnancy didn't even crossed my mind. I went to Dr right after I got home and she said it was due to stress, climat change, culture shock etc. Two days later I got my period back. I have to say I was enjoying my life without it lol

Yes, but NEVER for that long. Have you been losing weight, gotten very thin or been trying to lose weight? Because often when women work out a lot, they stop getting periods, most professional female athletes stop as I was told. And also when women get below a certain weight, they will stop getting periods then, too.

It happens to me quite often, but as its not normal for you, its probably good to just check and make sure nothing else is going on. Its most likely nothing.

Stress does funky things to me and I've missed a period and have started a period off schedule. The first time I skipped a period I went to my doctor and she did ask me if I was under a lot of stress. I scoffed and told her 'no' but driving home I realized I was under a huge amount of pressure designing a marketing campaign.

NOW, that being said - I have never missed 3 months in a row and if that happened, regardless of the circumstances, I would see my doctor right away.

I've missed many periods due to stress. Funny thing is though... whenever I caved and bought a pregnancy test, I got my period within 24 hours of getting the negative result!

I would still suggest going to the Doctor that way you know for sure that there's nothing else going on! I went to my Dr. yesterday to have everything checked out for the same reason! Everything was good in the hood - so now I don't have to stress about that any longer Smiley winking
