Have anyone used $2.97 Oakleaf wine from Walmart?

Walmart has wine for $2.97/bottle in various flavors. I am strongly considering but about 4 cases. Have any purchased/served it at the reception? Have anyone tasted it?

Used Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, savignion blanc and merlot. Covered them with burlap for beach theme and people raved about the wine. Kept asking what it was... blind taste test??

OK, I drink a lot of wine...... and I choose wines from the top 20 lists. I have never seen Oak Leaf on any of the lists and the $2.99 price tag just reeks of cheep wine. But I have to tell you the Oak Leaf Chardonnay is one of my favorite table wines. It is very drinkable and I would recommend that everyone suspend your bias about what constitutes a cheep wing and give it a try. I think you will be pleasantly surprised!!

I think you’re wrong. I found it very good. I am not a wine novice. I have drunk inexpensive wines, moderately priced wines and very high priced wines. This was a very pleasant surprise to me.

I think the Oak Leaf label is fairly new. At least I had not seen it in stores until recently. I bought the white zinfandel with trepidation, wondering what kind of wine would cost $3. I was pleasantly surprised, it was very good.

Have you looked at Charles Shaw (2 buck chuck) wine at Trader Joes? It's actually pretty good. Also if you have Lidl or Aldi by you they have some decent wine and even sparkling wine. I'm with PP's, you should try any wine first before serving it to your guests.

I have tried Charles Shaw and found it ok, but a little harsh. If people are looking for a wine to serve at a wedding they should get the best wine that fits their budget. $10 wines should be acceptable to all. But I find Oak Leaf perfectly acceptable for couples on a budget. I am one of those people who does not believe in overly expensive weddings. Couples and their families have to discuss how much is going to be spent. Oak Leaf wine is one way to keep within a budget. But if the sky’s the limit, go ahead and get the $100-$200+ wine. I’m sure the guests will be impressed.

I would never, ever spend that kind of money on wine for a wedding. Anniversary? Sure. Huge promotion at work? Absolutely. What did I say to you thay made you think I insinuated vast amounts of spending?

Amanda,, . I was speaking generally to the list, not to you specifically. I know there are people on this list who would be willing to spend that kind of money on wine for a wedding. . I am not one of them, and I assume you aren’t either.

We drink Oak Leaf wine on a regular basis. Our "go to" vareitals include their Merlot, their Shiraz, their Pinot Grigio and their Sweet Red. We use the Sweet Red for our "Poor Man's Sangria" .... which is nothing more than Oak Leaf Sweet Red that we spritz with some sort of fruit flavored soda (Diet Squirt is our spritz of choice ... but Seven-Up, Orange and even Fresca have been pressed into service with surprising results!). If we want to get real fancy - we'll even toss in a few hunks of fresh fruit (orange sliced, lime slices, a few pineapple chunks).

No - Oak Leaf is not "fine wine" … but it's certainly a step up from box wines like Franzia or Alemedan. It even presents will with it's faux cork and all. And it's hard not to like the $2.96 per bottle price. At that price - you don't mind cracking a bottle to enjoy with Monday's leftover meatload or Thursday evening's grilled cheese sammich.
