Have i taken on too much?

katiekies, on February 23, 2022 at 3:32 AM Posted in Planning 2 5

I started a new job in September 2021, then applied for and received a "promotion" (of sorts) in January 2022.

Early February: I applied to college, hoping to take a course or two this Spring to work towards a diploma that will help me with my new career path. The next day: Received an eviction notice for our dog (the apartment lifestyle was not suitable for an anxious dog like him ... unfortunately, he passed away less than two weeks after this) and I decided it was the right time for us to buy a house, so called a realtor and mortgage broker the next day. Then: fiancé and I got engaged.

So, to recap: new 30-hour job + back to school part-time + buying a house + planning a wedding ...

Have I taken on too much? I mean, once the house is bought and we move, then really it's only the job + school + wedding ... and the school part wouldn't start until May, and we can get some of the wedding planned before that (ex: book a venue and some of the major vendors), plus my Mom and (pretty sure) my FMIL will help with wedding stuff. And, of course, I have my wonderfully supportive fiancé by my side!

... So it's fine, right?

Oh boy. I am exhausted just reading everything that you have going on! If you have a support system it may be manageable, but the closer you get to the wedding the more tedious, time consuming details will pop up. If you are doing any DIY stuff you may want to reconsider school or you may not get much sleep. You’re a brave soul and you got this!!

I worked 2 jobs and was in grad school when I was planning our wedding. It’s a lot but doable.

We were both went back to school to earn another degree and started new jobs. Our thing is that we decided to start planning two years out. That helped us make a Budget, figure out what we both wanted and what we could compromise on not including. Honestly that was the best for us, most or our wedding is planned, minus the menu which we can do until June, invitations, timeline, and making sure everything is payed for.
If you think you can do it all then I say go for it! We all handle stress and certain work loads differently so in the end it will be up to you what will work.
I do hope you enjoy all these wonderful new things in your life......sorry about your dog.

I work two jobs and we moved into a house last fall (that required home improvement projects) and it's been doable. You have to be able to compartmentalize and know when to make certain things a priority. Lists helped me stay organized. Having a solid support system and reliable/responsive people to help is important as well. Another thing to consider is finances. A house, school and wedding can all add up and you want to have that all sorted before diving in. Financial issues only compound stress. Good luck!

I work full time and am in school part time, and its doable thus far (knock on wood)!

I also bought a house in 2020, and I will say house + school+ work was INCREDIBLY stressful. As long as you aren't closing on the house too close to the wedding day, I think you will be fine!
