Have people ever just showed up without Rsvping?

Lindsay, on June 15, 2021 at 7:23 AM Posted in Planning 0 18
I have over 50 people who haven’t responded to my wedding and today is the rsvp date. Out of town people I figure aren’t going to come but I have a lot of in town that haven’t responded. I also have people telling me there coming and not sending there card back. Has anyone ever had people not respond and then show up what do you do in that situation? It’s very frustrating as I need to finalize things and people just aren’t responding not sure what more I can do.

After today I would definitely start tracking down and contacting the people who have yet to respond. Don't be alarmed though, I feel like this is just something that happens for weddings. Also, are your guests mailing back their responses or is it electronically? If they are mailing them back, keep in mind that many USPS offices are still behind and a little slower with mail because of the pandemic.

Call everyone left and say you need a concrete answer. This step is important because things happen and people think they rsvped but for some reason you don’t have their answer. I had one situation where a cousin thought she instructed her husband to drop the card in the mail but he heard her say she HAD dropped the card in the mail…a few days after our date one of them found the envelope and had an “oh no!!!” moment. We had another rsvp , yes for a family of 4 that got lost in the mail. About a month after the wedding, a wrinkly envelope postmarked from before the rsvp date appeared in our mailbox. So, things happen that make it worth confirming with anyone you haven’t heard from. If I had just taken those lacks of response as no’s, I would’ve been very surprised when they showed up day of claiming they had RSVPed!

If you did mail in rsvps you may want to wait a couple days before following up. We had many people who clearly put them in the post on the due date, and several trickled in over the couple days after the deadline

Definitely start calling/texting/emailing those you haven’t heard back from. You should get a yes or no from everyone invited.

Agreed, and don't feel bad about it. They're the ones with the bad manners.

Unfortunately, this is a common problem. You will need to start calling/texting everyone who did not respond to confirm their answer. The RSVP process is the worst!

I followed up with all my no answers with the following verbiage.

Hi xyz, Hope all is well! Will you be joining FH and I on June 26? we need to provide the final numbers to the catered by the end of this week and want to make sure everyone attending will be fed! Good news, you don't even have to end the rsvp card back! Instead, you can rsvp through our website, www.celebrateinthewoods.com and I'll get your response immediately

    thanks!

This is a very common occurrence, but it could be no fault of the invitee due to the already stated reasons. It's a good idea to designate someone to follow-up on the RSVPs. My mom is receiving all the RSVPs and following-up on the no responses. She offered since the majority of the invites are to her side of the family. She'll be doing this so we can give our vendors (caterer, rental company) a final headcount by their deadline.

However, with all that being said, you may still have no shows and even people show up who originally said no, but following-up on our responses will minimize that from happening.

I had situations where they brought guests i was not expecting.

We followed up with the few guests that did not RSVP. They all gave us an answer during our follow up call/text.
